Corning 2011 Abbey of New Clairvaux Cistercian life is ordinary and simple, yet it is life abundant The brothers of the Abbey of New Clairvaux in Vina strive to live out the Christian call to God according to their 900-year-old Cistercian tradition. The monks remain silent and each day the Liturgy Schedule begins at 3:30 a.m., with six more through 7:35 p.m. Sunday mass begins at 10:30 a.m. Guests are welcome for a few hours or several days of retreat. To assist those who desire to further understand their prayer experiences, the monastery makes available monks who offer spiritual direction and accompaniment and the sacrament of reconciliation. New Clairvaux Vineyard With deep, fertile loam soils and mild climate, New Clairvaux is an ideal site for modern winemaking. Leland Stanford operated the world’ s largest vineyard, winery and distillery at the site in 1890, known as Leland Stanford’s Great Vina Ranch. The first Cistercian winery in North America, New Clairvaux produces several varieties of fine wine and offers tastings 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 14 Corning 2011 Sacred Stones The 12th century Chapter House imported stone by stone from the Iberian Peninsula is being reconstructed at the Abbey. Tours are available. Sundays or by appointment at (530) 839- 2200. Directions Vina is just west of Corning. From Interstate 5: Take the South Avenue exit and make a left heading east; proceed on South Avenue 21 miles and take a left onto Rowles Road just past the railroad tracks. Take a left on 7th Street and ahead you will see the White Cross which marks the entrance to the Abbey. From Hwy 99E: Vina is about 20 miles south of Red Bluff. Take a right turn onto Vina Road, before Lassen Steakhouse. Vina Road will bend on the corner of Vina Elementary and turn into 7th Street. Proceed on 7th Street and you will see the White Cross which marks the entrance to the Abbey.
