All indications are this week will work in their favor. Lake Wylie will be the lake this week. Check in next week to see how they fared. J & J The Saturday side of the J & J Lake Norman Winter trail fished last weekend. Forty-five boats blasted off at 9am and when the 4pm weigh-in was over, Maurice Freeze and Rick Poplin had the win with 12.85. Donald and Kevin Stanley had 11.20 and claimed second with Shane Lehew and Adam Waters close behind with 11.15. Craig Chambers and Hank Cherry had 8.60 and took fourth while Michael Fox and Tony Shook rounded out the top five with 8.55. Big fish of the day was a 3.85 largemouth and there was a tie for that award. The teams of Michael Fox/Tony Shook as well as Steve and Wayne Gales shared that honor. The Saturday trail will fish again on Jan 29 while the Sunday trail will fish on Jan 23. I expect to have the tournament schedule from JD up at Lake Rhodhiss on his trail by next week’s deadline, so look forward to that. Spring is just around the corner, even though mother nature keeps throwing us curve balls. Be ready, make sure those tackle boxes have been re- arranged and the rods and reels are cleaned and re-spooled. They are one of the most productive lures of all. It’s the only lure in the family of topwaters that is constantly on the move, creating a commotion that suggests it is some form of life scurrying for survival. Bass attack it out of anger, hunger, curiosity, or survival. There is something magical about a buzzbait. It will provoke strikes when other lures fail. You can cover a lot of water quickly with it; attract fish that cannot see your lure; and fish it over, around, and through many forms of cover. Buzzbaits also have a tremendous reputation for attracting big bass. Most seasons have just closed and since you still have to remove some tree stands, take some time to fi nd out where the deer have been traveling. There are sev- eral reasons that make this a perfect time of the year. First of all, you don’t have to be concerned about spooking anything. Secondly, the deer are still in their winter pattern. And thirdly, the absence of the leaves will allow you to see a larger area. When I have done this, it seems that I always fi nd a new and better place to hunt next year and I get a picture of their thought process- es under the present circumstances. For instance, this year there have been an abundance of acorns, so I know the deer have not had to travel very far to eat. And even though the same trees may not produce acorns in another year of abundance, it gives me a re- ally good idea as to where they are likely to bed when the food is plentiful again. It just gives me another chapter in the ongoing being-a-better-hunter, journal. Speaking of journaling, let me rec- ommend it to you. My life changed dramatically a few years ago. I left a secure position with eighteen years of employment to begin a new pursuit – one of which I knew God was leading me in. I also knew it would be diffi cult and I would constantly need to know and understand how God would move generally and specifi cally. I knew there were plenty of promises in the Bible that were not just written for a specifi c individual or people, but for everyone. These would serve me well on a daily basis. For the specifi c ways that God would speak to me and/or move in my life, I would need to write these down. These became my permanent mark- ers and reminders for the times when I thought God would not come through when I needed Him the most. Each time this happened, I was not only able to claim His general prom- ises, but I was able to go back through my journal, to the time and place that He performed a miraculous work in my own life. If you are entering a new period of your life or if you are getting ready to undergo a time that will call for great faith; begin a journal. Write your thoughts – all of them, both good and bad. Write down what God is telling you and the times your faith seems so small. You will begin to see a pattern of the presence and work of God in your life that along with the Scriptures will give you strength you never imagined you could have. And they will give you the guaranteed assurance that God will never leave you or fail to provide in your neediest hour. www outdoortruths.or SHELBY www..outdoortruths.org COME SEE THE EXPERT TRANSMISSION RANSMISSION Service & PSPECIALISTS PECIALISTS vice & Parts ts Work Guaranteed 734 Nallel y Dr. She b NC Shelbl y, NC 704-482-8756 Hal 704-482-8756 Hal Jimmy Jimmy Lyle yle Sportsman‘s Corner Sportsman‘s Corner ork Guaranteed 734 Na ley Dr COME SEE THE EXPERTS HELBY ...get out & enjoy nature! ©CommunityFirstMedia ESTIM TES ESTIMATES FREE FREE
