The new version of “90210” brought back Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth. David Hasselhoff revisited his Michael Knight character when NBC remade “Knight Rider.” Heather Lock- A/Pine Ridge Grocery B/Smoker Friendly 1 x 4 lear also followed suit when she stepped back into her old “Melrose Place” role. Now, ABC’s updated version of “V” is joining the trend with the announcement that Marc Singer will guest star in the Season 2 finale episode. The series just started the new season at the beginning of this month, but having Sing- er secured for the season finale could help keep the viewership up through to the spring. The star played freedom fighter Mike Donovan in the original version, which ran for a season in the mid-’80s. In the current edition, he’ll portray a member of a top-secret organi- zation made up of global mili- tary and political leaders, who are convinced that the Visitors have not come in peace. Previously, Jane Badler re- turned to the series as a recur- ring guest star to play Anna’s mother. In the original, she was cast as Diana. FOREIGN TV INVASION: Think back to the beginning of the new millennium. Reality TV, as viewers know it today, was just beginning to gain atten- tion in North America, thanks mostly to two individuals. Dutchman John de Mol had just scored big-time in his na- tive country with “Big Broth- er,” and its American version took off in a big way in 2000. Then there was Mark Burnett, a British-born producer whose resume is full of American suc- cess stories, including “Survi- vor” and “The Apprentice.” Imagine, then, what these two greats of reality television could produce if they joined forces. That dream will soon be a reality itself with the an- nouncement that de Mol and Burnett will partner for a new NBC series, which is tenta- tively titled “The Voice of America.” Based on the hit Dutch se- ries “The Voice of Holland,” this new show will go head-to- head with the likes of “Ameri- can Idol” to discover the next great American singer. Four celebrity artists will coach their own teams of sing- Benson 1 x 5 A/Van’s Auto B/Nicole’s Family Dining 1 x 3 B/Maury’s Restaurant 1 x 3 ers, and the audience will play a role in deciding who be- comes a finalist in the competi- tion. A lucrative recording con- tract is up for grabs. ”The celebrity coaches are passionate about discovering, developing and nurturing new talent,” said NBC’s Paul Telegdy. “As soon as we saw the Dutch format, we knew this was completely different and really exciting.” Burnett added that he is an admirer of de Mol’s work on the Dutch version of the show and his previous productions, and is looking forward to working with him on this new endeavor.
