HTurkey Continued from page B-1 class, went 3-1 during the first day of the competition. "Devin and Nick had three pins each and both looked really good over the weekend," Hewig said. "They both wrestled very consistently." As a team, the Chargers defeated Forest Park 5130, Tecumseh 60-24, South Spencer 58-12, Evansville Harrison 48-30 and Wood Memorial 72-6, while dropping losses to Heritage Hills 40-33, Evansville North 4524 and Evansville Central 48-30. Hewig noted that the Chargers were 3-1 against Pocket Athletic Conference opponents, with the loss to Heritage Hills being decided by the last bout, when senior A.J. Ronk, competing in the 160-pound weight class, was pinned with 21.7 seconds left in the second period. "I was pleased with our overall performance and thought our kids really wrestled hard," Hewig said. "We had some forfeits that really hurt us on the second day but the kids that wrestled never stopped trying and Pike Central junior Aaron Keepes placed first in the boys' 100-yard breaststroke during a high school swim meet against visiting Heritage Hills on Monday, Dec. 2. "It is always hard to gauge improvement when kids wrestle the same kids every day during practices, so it was good to see different opposition," Hewig said. "We had some spots where we wrestled really well and some spots where we struggled, but, overall, we were successful as a team. Our losses were manageable and were never out of hand. I think if we get a couple of young men back from injury and improve on simple mistakes, we can be a lot more competitive with those three teams (Heritage Hills, Evansville North and Evansville Central)." "The good thing is we see all the teams we lost to again this season," Hewig added. "So we can see how our adjustments work to make us better at tournament time."
