Send your notes or postcards to Sweets Column, Winslow, IN 47598. Bitter cold weather was last week and Thanksgiving Day was just what I had imagined, cold and windy. We had frost several mornings, but at least the sun was out, which made it feel a little warm, but some days you had to wear those gloves or have frozen fingers. Norm and I had two Thanksgiving holidays— one with Vernon, T.J., Kristie, Damien, Kyana and mom where we fixed that big turkey we got with dressing, gravy, sweet potatoes, potatoes, pasta salad and pumpkin pie. The second Thanksgiving was with 13 of our family members who met in Evansville and ate turkey, dressing, my favorite sweet potatoes, salad and desserts. I was the last one to finish my meal so we had more time to talk and make out our food list for preparing the Christmas menu at Laura and Daniel's home. We also plan to make our gifts this year. It's always great to enjoy the holidays with family and friends if only for a few hours. I know this season is very hectic with all the shopping to be done. If you don't enjoy what you're doing with others it's not a very happy season, so try to enjoy everything you do and have a happier holiday season with family and friends. Kyana was here for Thanksgiving break and she met new friends and had a great time with Jacari, her cousin, on Thanksgiving Day. The Christmas decorations are up and I have seen several in Oakland City and a few are going up in Winslow now that Dec. has begun. You're probably tired of hearing that the deer season is still going on and to watch out for deer as you drive on the roads, but I'll say it again, stay safe and slow down because the deer are also trying to stay alive and not get shot. With the temps rising a little just remember that it's still the fall to winter season and the temps are sure to change during the week. We might have snow for Christmas, yes, that white fluffy stuff that covers the whole area with white. As the lights begin to dim on this week, keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and smell the roses, enjoy life around you, and always smile, wave and say "hi" to everyone this week. Parades are fun for all ages. The Press-Dispatch American Education week at Otwell Elementary The students also had fun getting to learn about Keith Hill's miniature horse that came to visit.
