The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, November 13, 2013 ★ Church news Continued from page 4 Petersburg Free Methodist Church Christmas in the Park is coming up and we need help putting up Christmas lights at the park this weekend and the next. We will need people to replace bulbs and people to put up displays. Be at the park at 8 a.m. Saturday if you can help. Billy Graham turned 95 years old this year and his ministry worked with him to prepare one last message from him for the world. We will be showing that message in church Sunday night. The night will start with pizza at 6 p.m. and then we will watch the video together. This is an ideal video to share with unchurched friends. Bring your friends. You can also order a copy of the video to give to friends and family members. Also on the 26th, the Ministerial Association will be having our annual Thanksgiving service at Glezen Revival Center. More details to follow. Sunday, Dec. 8, we will have our church Christmas dinner at noon. Meat and drinks will be furnished. Bring your favorite dish to share. Our normal weekly schedule is as follows: Sunday school starts at 9:30 a.m. with morning worship following at 10:15 a.m.; Sunday night at 6 p.m. we have a casual evening service. Monday at 6:30 p.m. the Study Buddies meet in the new fellowship hall and an exercise group meets in the old fellowship hall; Thursday at 4 p.m. the Knitwits meet to knit and crochet. Peace and joy in the Lord. Mark Schlechty, Pastor FIRST U.M. CHURCH 801 E. Walnut Petersburg Sunday morning worship 9:30 a.m.; fellowship 10:2510:40 a.m.; Sunday school 10:40-11 :30 a.m.; choir practice on Wednesday evening. Remember this is a special time of the year to remember our Veterans and all that they have and are doing for our country. "Do not be afraid of their faces, for I am with you" (Jeremiah 1:8 NKJV). Does the job you've been called to do seem too big for you? On your own, it is, but not when you include God. You're not working alone, God is with you. Whether it's to pull down or build up, the One who called you will equip you, empower you and give you success. He didn't make a mistake when He picked you. You say, "If only I had the education, talent and experience of so-and-so." If God wanted them, He'd have chosen them, but He chose you. Just be yourself, trust God, and everything will go well for you. Taken in part from The Word for You Today. See you in church next Sunday. Mel Camp, Pastor house of mercy Sunday morning worship service 10 a.m.; children's class 10:10 a.m.; teen class 10:45 a.m.; Sunday and Thursday night services 7 p.m.; nursing home services fourth Sunday of each month at Amber Manor in Petersburg at 2 p.m. and there will be no night service at House of Mercy on this day. Every other Tuesday night is intercessory prayer at 7 p.m. at House of Mercy. Next night of prayer is November 19, at 7 p.m. Where the Spirit of God Dwells Nov. 17—The Andersons will be ministering in song and the Word at 10 a.m. They are truly anointed of God. They have opened for many gospel groups. You will not be disappointed. December 5-6—Prophetess Terry Stiles will be ministering at 7 p.m. nightly. If you are looking for a house of worship, come and visit. God says in His Word that His blessings would come upon us if we are obedient to His Word. If we sow an upright life, we will receive blessings, but if we sow the oats of sin, we receive not. God's formula of sowing and reaping will stand as long as the earth stands. We have a family atmosphere and people with big hearts of love desiring to see people grow in a relationship with Jesus. We will show you mercy and compassion as our Jesus did when He was upon this earth, for He is our example. You will feel the presence of His Spirit and be refreshed and renewed. Remember to pray for your loved ones, friends and neighbors that are sick in body or facing problems of life. Only thing missing in ch-rch is you. Hope to see you in church Sunday. Be blessed. In His service George Bruce, Pastor pleasant grove g.b. church Spraggins Sunday school 9:30 a.m., Kathy Miller, superintendent; Michael Miller, morning speaker 10:30 a.m. Everyone welcome. Sunday school lesson for Nov. 17—Beginning of Freedom. Last week's trivia question and answer: During the Passover Feast, what had to be removed from each household? Answer: Leavening (yeast)—Exodus 12:15. Next week's trivia question: When chasing the children of Israel, how many chariots did the Pharaoh take with him? Hint—Exodus Mini message: "Learning tough lessons" The Israelites began complaining and grumbling as soon as they began their exodus from Egypt. Their lack of faith in God was immediate. How often do we exhibit the same behavior? Where is our trust in God? Trusting first might prevent a lot of painful lessons learned, and spared grief. Until next week—May God bless. Fred Faith, Deacon Kathy Miller, Reporter Brenton Chapel Church of Christ 1194 E. Co. Rd. 400 N. Prides Creek Road, Petersburg Sunday morning Bible classes 10 a.m.; worship 10:30 a.m.; evening worship 6 p.m.; Wednesday evening Bible study 7 p.m.. George Fiscus, Minister PLEASANT RIDGE G.B. CHURCH Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10:30 a.m.; Sunday evening song service 6:30 p.m. Everyone is always welcome. We want to thank God for His mercy, love and answered prayer. Continue to pray for one another, the unsaved, the prayer list, for all who are traveling, for the sick and needy, for the ones in hospitals and nursing homes, for the military and their families, our President and his family, and all decisions that are made. We also need to pray for our country. We want to extend our sympathy to anyone who has lost a loved one. God has a plan for your life. Life can be short, we don't have time to waste. He made us in His image. If we live our life wisely, we will follow His instruction. If you choose God's way, you can have less worry and stress than someone who is disobedient. If you want to be wise, you will seek God. The Bible is God's guidebook. Trust Him as your personal Savior. "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes; but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise" (Proverbs 12:15). Being willing to listen is a good start to being godly. Thought—Cover people with love. We may not understand someone, but God does. Have a great week. Dale Frederick, Pastor Lois K. Fowler, Reporter main street presbyterian church 10th and Main Streets, Petersburg Sunday school 9:15 a.m.; Sunday worship 10:30 a.m. We have a nursery for children up to the age of seven and we also have a van route in Petersburg to pick anyone up. Come visit us, our doors are always open to you. Covered by prayer Remember our soldiers As a battle raged around them, soldiers huddled in a trench during the Vietnam War. Their commander had ordered them to stay put, but one soldier noticed a buddy lying wounded in an open area, crying for help. The soldier in the trench kept checking the time. Suddenly, he dashed for his injured friend, bringing him back to safety. When the commanders asked this daring young soldier why he'd risked his life this way, the soldier said his mom had promised to pray for him at the same time every day. Because he knew he was covered in prayer, he had the courage to save his friend. Office hours: 9-noon, Monday-Friday. Phone: 3546844.
