He was born on June 5, 1961, in Cleveland County, NC to Benjamin Arthur Dawkins and Ethel Hoey Dawkins. Mr. Dawkins served our country in the U.S. Army. Arthur was pre- ceded in death by his paternal grandparents, his maternal grandpar- ents; and by his brother, Bryan Russell Dawkins. He is survived by his parents, Benjamin Arthur Dawkins and Ethel Hoey Dawkins of Shelby, NC; his brother, Keith Dawkins (Clarice) of Fairfax, VA; his sister, Abigail Dawkins Banner (Tyrone) of Concord, NC; and two children, Atlas Brown of Shelby, NC and Ashley Dawkins of St. Petersburg, FL; eight grandsons; and three great grandchildren. Services were held November 15, 2023, at Shoal Creek Baptist Church. Interment took place at Salisbury National Cemetery. HAZEL SIMS Mrs. Hazel Joann Lattimore Sims, 86, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023. She was born, April 9, 1937 Rockland, MA; a daughter, Lori Lankford of Shelby; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held November 18, 2023 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Cherryville with the Revs. Keith Huss and Wayne Key officiating. Burial followed the service in the church cem- etery with military honors. Memorials may be made to Mt. She was born July 13, 1971, in Cleveland County. She was the daughter of Mitchell and Frankie Philbeck. Carol was employed by Cleveland Vocational Industries, Inc. for 32 years. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church. Carol is survived by her mother, Frankie Philbeck, her father, Mitchel Philbeck (Susan McMurry), Aunts Lydia Huffman, Elizabeth Ledford (George) and many cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held at Northside Baptist Church Monday, November 27, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. in Cleveland County, NC on April 9, 1937 to the late Walt and Willie Mae Lattimore. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton M. Sims; four sisters, Helen Scofield, Linda Lattimore, Virginia Ager and Christine Sadler and a brother, Rev. David Lattimore. She is survived by her four children, Romaine Oates (Sherwood), Rev. Harold M. Sims (Deller), Howard Sims (Paula) and Flora Sims; four sis- ters, Grace Strong ,Sarah Sims Cherry Rogers and Beatrice Rogers; one brother, Walter J. Lattimore; two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Lattimore and Beatrice Sims; four brothers-in-law, Charles Sims, Bill Sims, Gene Sadler and Gerald Rogers and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held November 18, 2023 at 2:30 PM at First Baptist Church Lawndale. Burial took place at the church cemetery. LARRY JENNINGS CANNON Larry Jennings Cannon, 72, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on November 15, 2023. He was born in Cleveland County, NC, son of the late Ralph Jennings Cannon and Lucille Hambright Cannon and was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Brookins. He is survived by his sons: Barret Cannon and wife Melinda of Kings Mountain, NC and Brian Cannon and wife Amanda of Shelby, NC; five grandchil- dren; six great grandchildren; and sister: Onita Spake, Walnut Creek, CA There are no services planned at this time.
