Calling all aspiring chefs! It's time to sharpen your knives and prepare your mise-en-scène, as "Mary Makes it Easy" airs an all- new episode, Sunday, Oct. 22, on Food Network. Hosted by Canadian television host, cookbook author and chef Mary Berg (winner of "MasterChef Canada" Season 3), this how-to series follows as Berg gives step-by-step instructions to follow rec- ipes that are guaranteed to impress even the pickiest of eaters, as the chef hopes to teach culinary novices and cooks alike how to expand their recipe book without any of the stress. With multiple seasons now under her belt, Berg has focused episodes on a myriad of topics, including: how to make multiple rec- ipes all utilizing the same base ingredients — like coleslaw used both in golden brown Japanese Okonomi- yaki-inspired pancakes and store-bought rotisserie chicken, turned into a near- ly unrecognizable, quick and easy Coq au Vin; upgrading store-bought cookie doughs and pie crusts to make im- pressive desserts; using your kitchen tools — cast iron included — to their fullest potential; and even making the correct wine and alcohol pairings, in an episode in which Berg "shakes things up with Wine Can Chicken that's cooked with a cocktail of dry white wine, lemon and herbs" (Food Network). In episodes to come, Food Network shares that Berg shares her love for cooking outside, detailing recipes that "take grill night to the next level." "Brie and Pancetta Burg- ers are topped with chunky grilled red onion and gooey Brie cheese," they describe. "For a vegetarian grill-friend- ly main, Mary's Grilled Soy Maple Mushrooms caramel- ize beautifully, and on the lighter side, Grilled Scallops with Minty Pea Salad are flavored with garlic, lemon and herbs on a peppery aru- gula base. Finally, Mary does some barbecue baking with decadent Cheese Stuffed Grilled Garlic Flatbreads." And — taking her cre- ative approach, as always – Berg even shares her own, unique "mash-up" recipes throughout the series, melding common dishes like Caesar Salad and Roast Chicken, even crafting a Taco Meatball skillet. Delving into the best tips, tricks and tools nec- essary for any cook, Mary Berg impresses in every episode of "Mary Makes it Easy," airing Sundays on Food Network. what'scooking tastytv BY CAROLINE COLLACUTT Mary knows best: Chef Mary Berg teaches aspiring chefs in how-to show Mary Berg from "Mary Makes it Easy" 7 p.m. FOOD Guy's Grocery Games Four chefs from four of Guy's restaurants face off in two rounds of culinary combat. 8 p.m. FOOD Guy's Grocery Games Guy brings the culi- nary combat to Flavortown Market's aisles in every sin- gle round. 9 p.m. FOOD Guy's Grocery Games 10 p.m. FOOD Guy's Grocery Games Guy produces a vat of goo containing mysteri- ous canned foods that chefs must use in a fried dish.
