12 • Terre Haute Tribune-Star • October 8 - 14, 2023 "YELLOWJACKETS: SEASON TWO" The sophomore round of the widely acclaimed Showtime drama series opens with deaths challenging the emotional equilibrium of the surviving soccer-team players both in the past and the present day. In each time period, Shauna (played by Melanie Lynskey as an adult and Sophie Nelisse in younger years) shows more of her true colors as she participates in attempted cover-ups. Also, the contemporary Natalie (Juliette Lew- is) finds herself in big trouble at a commune. The cast also includes Tawny Cypress, Christina Ricci, Lauren Ambrose, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Liv Hewson, Steven Krueger and Warren Kole. This season currently is nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award as outstanding drama series, as is Lynskey for her work in it. *** (Not rated: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray) "David [Hyde Pierce] basically decided he wasn't really interested in repeating the performance of Niles," - Kelsey Grammer, in an interview with Peo- ple ahead of the "Frasier" reboot. "['The Fall of the House of Usher'] will be great. It's bonkers, loud, in-your-face: very different from everything else Mike [Flanagan]'s done." - Rahul Kohli describes "The Fall of the House of Usher" to Empire. Besides a well-timed kiss from a handsome prince, the only hope for Snow may be as- sistance from a septet of dwarfs she has won over to her side quite easily. For the sake of naming them, they are (all together now): Doc, Sneezy, Grumpy, Happy, Bashful, Sleepy and Dopey. A 4K Ultra HD Steelbook edition of the movie also is available. **** (G) "TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS" The toy-inspired franchise continues with its seventh movie chapter, a prequel to the first "Transformers" picture that again pits machines against one another in a battle for control of the universe ... and of Earth very specifically. An object known as the Tran- swarp Key, which simply sounds ominous, is coveted by the Terrorcons (who don't sound much more inviting), prompting the more be- nevolent Autobots and Maximals to do what they can to keep whatever peace is possible. Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback play two humans who use their areas of expertise to help the mechanical heroes. Michael Kelly ("Special Ops: Lioness") and Sarah Stiles ("Billions") also are in the live-action cast, with returnee Peter Cullen, Ron Perlman, Peter Dinklage, Pete Davidson and recent Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh among those supplying character voices. *** (PG-13: P, V) (Also on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD and Digital) "THE BOOGEYMAN" Though movies based on Stephen King stories aren't as plentiful as they once were, this thriller is one of the latest. A family that has lost its matriarch is plagued by an evil force – known as The Boogey- man – that they were warned about by a man (David Dastmalchian) who died under mysterious circumstances soon afterward, with different members of the clan experi- encing the terror in different ways. Sophie Thatcher and Vivien Lyra Blair play sisters who have to fight the invader, with Chris Messina ("Julie & Julia") as their therapist father. LisaGay Hamilton also appears in the film, in which King wasn't involved directly, but its makers arranged a Maine showing that he could attend (and he re- portedly approved of what they did with his tale). *** (PG-13: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray, Digital and On Demand) "ROSEMARY'S BABY" A classic chiller from genre-staple producer William Castle makes its 4K Ultra HD debut in time for Halloween, as director Roman Po- lanski's 1968 version of Ira Levin's best seller casts Mia Farrow – who had become hugely popular through her work on television's "Peyton Place" – as a young wife whose se- nior-citizen neighbors show an extraordinary interest in her. And actually not only in her, but also in her forthcoming child, for reasons that are quite unsettling once they're exposed. Co-star Ruth Gordon won an Oscar for her performance, and she's joined by such other veteran talents as Sidney Blackmer, Maurice Evans (in the same year he was Dr. Zaius in the original "Planet of the Apes") and Ralph Bellamy. **** (Not rated: AS, P, V) "THE CROWN: THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON" (OCT. 17) "ALF: THE COMPLETE SERIES (DELUXE EDITION)" (OCT. 17) "HAUNTED MANSION" (OCT. 17) "RABBIT HOLE: SEASON ONE" (OCT. 17) "MEG 2: THE TRENCH" (OCT. 24) Warren Kole in "Yellowjackets" Dominic West in "The Crown" Solution on page 19
