10 ENTERTAINMENT EXTRA By Raye Smith TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON PRIME VIDEO "Gen V" - Season 1 The supes are back and ready for more action: from the world of "The Boys" comes the new action series, "Gen V," premiering Friday, Sept. 29, on Prime Video. Heading away to Godolkin University, the prestigious superhero-only college where stu- dents train to be the next generation of heroes, the new series follows the first group of young heroes to know that their powers come from Compound V and are not natural- born gifts. As the students grapple with ordinary college chaos — from grades and parties to finding out who they are — they also deal with much higher stakes where their powers are involved. When a group of young supes at the school dis- cover something sinister is going on, they'll be put to the test as they're forced to confront whether they're the heroes or villains of their own stories. Starring Jaz Sinclair ("Chill- ing Adventures of Sabrina"), Chance Perdomo ("Chilling Adventures of Sabrina"), Lizze Broadway ("Here and Now"), Shelley Conn ("Bridg- erton"), Maddie Phillips ("Teenage Bounty Hunters"), London Thor ("Shameless"), Derek Luh ("Shining Vale"), Asa Germann ("Two Little Boys," 2020), Patrick Schwarzeneg- ger ("The Staircase"), Sean Patrick Thomas ("Till," 2022) and Marco Pigossi ("Invisible City"), the series also features appearances from "The Boys" cast members including Jessie T. Usher, Colby Minifie, Claudia Dou- mit and P.J. Byrne. WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "Krapopolis" - Season 1 Every family has their drama, and this ancient family is no exception. Fox's newest animated comedy se- ries, "Krapopolis," makes its stream- ing premiere on Hulu Monday, Sept. 25. Centering on "a flawed family of humans, gods and monsters at- tempting to guide humanity out of the savage wilderness and into a new lifestyle experiment they're calling 'civilization,'" the series fol- lows along as they attempt to run Krapopolis, one of the world's first cities, without killing each other in the process (per Fox). The story fol- lows the exploits of Tyrannis (Richard Ayoade, "The IT Crowd"), the mortal son of a goddess and the king of Krapopolis; Deliria (Hannah Wad- dingham, "Ted Lasso"), goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices, and Tyrannis' mother; Shlub (Matt Berry, "What We Do in the Shadows"), Tyrannis' father, a half- centaur, half-manticore; Stupendous (Pam Murphy, "Get Shorty"), Tyran- nis' half-sister; and Hippocampus (Duncan Trussell, "The Midnight Gospel"), Tyrannis' half-brother, the offspring of Shlub and a mermaid. Created by Dan Harmon ("Com- munity"), "Krapopolis" comes from Fox's Bento Box Entertainment and is executive produced by Harmon, Steve Levy ("Strange Planet"), Alex Rubens ("Rick and Morty") and Sea- son 1 showrunner Jordan Young. "The Kardashians" - Season 4 Through the newest phases of their lives and with a fresh series under their belt, fans can still keep up with one of television's most recogniz- able families. Season 4 of "The Kardashians" premieres Thursday, Sept. 28, on Hulu. Following the Kardashian-Jenner clan — including mom Kris and daughters Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Kendall and Kylie, as well as their significant others and kids — through the latest chapters of their lives, cameras capture it all as they navigate motherhood, co- parenting, building their own busi- ness empires and their high-profile careers. This season, "from second chances and new beginnings to unexpected blessings, they continue to bear it all together, a reminder that the most beautiful part of life is family" (per Hulu). The series is executive produced by the family in collaboration with Ryan Seacrest, who, in addition to his tenure host- ing "American Idol," was a longtime executive producer of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," the series that first launched the family into the spotlight and ran for 20 seasons. Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian Barker, Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner also act as executive producers for the series, alongside Emma Conway ("Betty White's Off Their Rockers"), Danielle King ("Million Dollar Listing New York") and Ben Winston ("The Late Late Show with James Cor- den"), and co-executive producers Sean Alvarez ("American Chopper: The Series") and William Newman ("Saving Paradise," 2021). WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar" (2023) Director and writer Wes Anderson ("Fantastic Mr. Fox," 2009) brings a beloved Roald Dahl story to the screen in the short film "The Wonder- ful Story of Henry Sugar," premiering on Netflix Wednesday, Sept. 27. This film kicks off a week of Anderson short releases, with new shorts "The Swan," "The Ratcatcher" and "Poison" following on Sept. 28, 29 and 30, respectively. The film follows the story of Henry Sugar (Benedict Cumberbatch, "Sherlock"), a rich man who learns about a guru who can see without using his eyes and then sets out to master the skill in order to cheat at gambling. Ralph Fi- ennes ("The Grand Budapest Hotel," 2014), Ben Kingsley ("Schindler's List," 1993), Dev Patel ("The News- room"), Richard Ayoade ("The IT Crowd") and Rupert Friend ("Pride & Prejudice," 2005) star. The film is produced by Jeremy Dawson ("Isle of Dogs," 2018) and Steven Rales ("Moonrise Kingdom," 2012) and co-produced by Alice Dawson ("The Father," 2020), John Peet ("The French Dispatch," 2021) and Octavia Peissel ("Asteroid City," 2023). "Encounters" Taking a closer look at some extraor- dinary true stories, the new, four-part docuseries, "Encounters," premieres on Netflix Wednesday, Sept. 27. Trav- elling the globe to explore encoun- ters with otherworldly phenomena, each episode is a deep-dive into a single story. Looking into "strange lights in the sky over small-town Texas; submersible space crafts haunting a coastal Welsh village; an alien encounter with schoolchildren in Zimbabwe; non-human intel- ligence reportedly interfering with a nuclear power plant in Japan," the stories are "told from the perspec- tive of firsthand experiencers — in the places where the sightings occurred — and guided by cutting- edge scientists and military person- nel, the series goes beyond the science to highlight the profoundly human impact of these encounters on lives, families and communi- ties" (per Netflix). Directed by Yon Motskin ("Generation Hustle"), who also executive produces the series, "Encounters" comes from Amblin Television, Boardwalk Pictures and Vice Studios. WHAT'S ON APPLE TV+ "Flora and Son" (2023) It's mother vs. son in a battle of wills in "Flora and Son," the new musical drama film from Apple TV+, premier- ing on the streamer Friday, Sept. 29. At a complete loss about what to do with her rebellious teenage son, Max (Orén Kinlan, "Sunlight," 2023), single mom Flora (Eve Hewson, "The Knick") is encouraged by the police to find Max a hobby. With a beat-up acoustic guitar and the help of Jeff (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, "Inception," 2010), a washed-up L.A. musician, Flora and Max discover the transfor- mative power of music as they work their way towards a harmonious new relationship. From the musical mind of director and writer John Carney ("Sing Street," 2016), the cast of "Flora and Son" also includes Jack Reynor ("The Peripheral"), Amy Huberman ("Finding Joy") and Keith McErlean ("Kin").
