Jeff Probst from "Survivor" This week's Best bets By Michelle Rose TV Media Strike out: In a move that has disappointed fans and the creative team behind the series, Amazon's Prime Video has opted to cancel its TV reboot of the 1992 film "A League of Their Own." The decision came as a shock since it had already given the green light to an abbreviated second season consisting of four episodes — just enough to wrap up the storylines and bring the series to a close. Now, with Amazon reversing its plans, pro- ducer Sony Pictures Television is hoping "A League of Their Own" can find a new home for its limit- ed second season. "We are still fighting for 'League'," posted co-creator/co- showrunner Will Graham, as part of a lengthy message shared on X, formerly Twitter. "If we have an avenue to do it well, we will continue the show. If we don't find a good path forward, I will still know that 'League' did what it came here to do and, in its own small way, changed the world." All the scripts were completed prior to the Writers Guild of America strike, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon reps feared the work stoppages would have likely delayed the arrival of Season 2 to 2025. It also pointed out that "A League of Their Own" isn't the only series to be "un-renewed" ahead of its second season. "The Peripheral," starring Chloë Grace Moretz, was also axed after being renewed back in February. Taking to social media, "A League of Their Own" star/co- showrunner Abbi Jacobson made it clear she was none too pleased with Amazon's decision to cancel the reboot and attribute the deci- sion to the WGA strike. But she focused instead on thanking the show's loyal fan base, writing, "This post here is about the spe- cial show I was lucky to make with so many incredibly talented artists and actors and writers and crew. A show I'm so proud of. Filled to the brim with stories worth telling. Full of so much heart and soul and value." Amazon axes 'A League of Their Own' Abbi Jacobson and D'Arcy Carden in "A League of Their Own" Stars on Screen A/Graybeals Carpet Plus BCD/Pulaski Memorial 6 x 5"
