Entertainment Now | September 23 - 29, 2023 By Raye Smith TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON PRIME VIDEO "Gen V" - Season 1 The supes are back and ready for more action: from the world of "The Boys" comes the new action series, "Gen V," premiering Friday, Sept. 29, on Prime Video. Heading away to Godolkin University, the prestigious superhero-only college where students train to be the next generation of heroes, the new se- ries follows the first group of young heroes to know that their powers come from Compound V and are not natural-born gifts. As the students grapple with ordinary college chaos — from grades and parties to finding out who they are — they also deal with much higher stakes where their powers are in- volved. When a group of young supes at the school discover some- thing sinister is going on, they'll be put to the test as they're forced to confront whether they're the he- roes or villains of their own stories. Starring Jaz Sinclair ("Chilling Ad- ventures of Sabrina"), Chance Per- domo ("Chilling Adventures of Sa- brina"), Lizze Broadway ("Here and Now"), Shelley Conn ("Bridg- erton"), Maddie Phillips ("Teenage Bounty Hunters"), London Thor ("Shameless"), Asa Germann ("Two Little Boys," 2020), Patrick Schwarzenegger ("The Staircase"), Sean Patrick Thomas ("Till," 2022) and Marco Pigossi ("Invisible City"), the series also features ap- pearances from "The Boys" cast members including Jessie T. Usher, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit and P.J. Byrne. WHAT'S ON APPLE TV+ "Flora and Son" (2023) It's mother vs. son in a battle of wills in "Flora and Son," the new musical drama film from Apple TV+, premiering on the streamer Friday, Sept. 29. At a complete loss about what to do with her rebel- lious teenage son, Max (Orén Kin- lan, "Sunlight," 2023), single mom Flora (Eve Hewson, "The Knick") is encouraged by the po- lice to find Max a hobby. With a beat-up acoustic guitar and the help of Jeff (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, "Inception," 2010), a washed-up L.A. musician, Flora and Max dis- cover the transformative power of music as they work their way to- wards a harmonious new rela- tionship. From the musical mind of director and writer John Carney ("Sing Street," 2016), the cast of "Flora and Son" also includes Jack Reynor ("The Peripheral"), Amy Huberman ("Finding Joy") and Keith McErlean ("Kin"). WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "Krapopolis" - Season 1 Every family has their drama, and this ancient family is no ex- ception. Fox's newest animated comedy series, "Krapopolis," makes its streaming premiere on Hulu Monday, Sept. 25. Centering on "a flawed family of humans, gods and monsters attempting to guide humanity out of the savage wilderness and into a new lifestyle experiment they're calling 'civiliza- tion,'" the series follows along as they attempt to run Krapopolis, one of the world's first cities, with- out killing each other in the pro- cess (per Fox). The story follows the exploits of Tyrannis (Richard Ayoade, "The IT Crowd"), the mortal son of a goddess and the king of Krapopolis; Deliria (Han- nah Waddingham, "Ted Lasso"), goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices, and Tyran- nis' mother; Shlub (Matt Berry, "What We Do in the Shadows"), Tyrannis' father, a half-centaur, half-manticore; Stupendous (Pam Murphy, "Get Shorty"), Tyrannis' half-sister; and Hippocampus (Duncan Trussell, "The Midnight Gospel"), Tyrannis' half-brother, the offspring of Shlub and a mer- maid. Created by Dan Harmon ("Community"), "Krapopolis" comes from Fox's Bento Box En- tertainment and is executive pro- duced by Harmon, Steve Levy ("Strange Planet"), Alex Rubens ("Rick and Morty") and Season 1 showrunner Jordan Young. WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar" (2023) Director and writer Wes Ander- son ("Fantastic Mr. Fox," 2009) brings a beloved Roald Dahl story to the screen in the short film "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar," premiering on Netflix Wednesday, Sept. 27. This film kicks off a week of Anderson short releases, with new shorts "The Swan," "The Rat- catcher" and "Poison" following on Sept. 28, 29 and 30, respective- ly. The film follows the story of Henry Sugar (Benedict Cumber- batch, "Sherlock"), a rich man who learns about a guru who can see without using his eyes and then sets out to master the skill in order to cheat at gambling. Ralph Fiennes ("The Grand Budapest Hotel," 2014), Ben Kingsley ("Schindler's List," 1993), Dev Pa- tel ("The Newsroom"), Richard Ayoade ("The IT Crowd") and Ru- pert Friend ("Pride & Prejudice," 2005) star.
