Entertainment Now | September 9 - 15, 2023 By Raye Smith TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON DISNEY+ "Animals Up Close With Bertie Gregory" Wildlife filmmaker and Na- tional Geographic adventurer Bertie Gregory ("Epic Adven- tures With Bertie Gregory") is back and bringing audiences even more epic wild adventures when "Animals Up Close With Bertie Gregory" premieres on Disney+, Wednesday, Sept. 13. Traveling to the farthest corners of our planet — from Antarctica to Africa and South America to Asia — Bertie and his fearless team track down extraordinary animals to take a look at their everyday lives in new and excit- ing ways. "Armed with drones, state-of-the-art cameras and underwater tech, he and his team brave subzero seas, climb snow-capped mountains and sleep suspended 120 feet in the air to reveal the challenges these animals endure, their fierce rivalries and the threats they face on our changing plan- et" (per Disney+). Including footage of all the intense be- hind-the-scenes moments the crew faces on their journey, this unique, traveling wildlife series is a look at the beauty and un- predictability of nature from all angles. Co-produced by Gregory with producers James Brickell ("Epic Adventures With Bertie Gregory"), Maddie Close ("Sev- en Worlds One Planet"), Jennie Hammond ("Springwatch"), Spencer Millsap ("The Captain: A Bond of Brotherhood Forged in War," 2016) and Will Nest ("Epic Adventures With Bertie Gregory"), the series is pro- duced by Wildstar Films. WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "The Other Black Girl" - Season 1 Based on the debut novel of the same name by Zakiya Dalila Harris, Hulu's new mystery dra- ma series, "The Other Black Girl," premieres Wednesday, Sept. 13. The series stars Sinclair Daniel ("Insidious: The Red Door," 2023) as Nella, an edito- rial assistant who is tired of be- ing the only Black girl at Wagner Books, an New York City pub- lishing company. So, when Wag- ner hires a new girl, Hazel (Ashleigh Murray, "Riverdale"), Nella is excited to finally feel like she has a friend by her side. But as Hazel settles into the company and begins to rise to the top, Nella is sent spiraling and discovers something sinis- ter is going on at her company. Featuring a teleplay by Kara Brown ("In the Dark"), Gus Hickey ("Will & Grace"), Jordan Reddout ("Man With a Plan") and first-time screenwriter Janelle Spence, the series is di- rected by Mariama Diallo ("Ran- dom Acts of Flyness"), Aurora Guerrero ("Queen Sugar") and Naima Ramos-Chapman ("Ran- dom Acts of Flyness"). "The Other Black Girl" also stars Kate Owens ("In Your Own Skin," 2013), Karina Willis ("The Game"), Alyshia Ochse ("Days of Our Lives"), Hunter Parrish ("17 Again," 2009), Eric McCor- mack ("Will & Grace"), Brittany Adebumola ("4400") and Bella- my Young ("Scandal"). WHAT'S NEW ON PRIME VIDEO "A Million Miles Away" (2023) Based on the book "Reaching for the Stars: The Inspiring Story of a Migrant Farmworker Turned Astronaut" by NASA flight engi- neer José Hernández, the inspir- ing new drama film "A Million Miles Away" premieres Friday, Sept. 15, on Prime Video. In- spired by Hernández's real-life story, the film follows him (por- trayed in the film by Michael Pena, "Ant-Man," 2015) and his devoted family of proud migrant farm workers on a journey from a rural village in Michoacán, Mexico, to the fields of the San Joaquin Valley, California, to more than 200 miles above the Earth in the International Space Station. "With the unwavering support of his hard-working par- ents, relatives and teachers, Jo- sé's unrelenting drive and deter- mination culminates in the op- portunity to achieve his seem- ingly impossible goal" (per Prime Video). Directed by Alejan- dra Márquez Abella ("Northern Skies Over Empty Space," 2022), the film features a screenplay by Abella, Bettina Gilois ("McFar- land, USA," 2015) and Hernán Ji- ménez ("Love Hard," 2021). Rosa Salazar ("Alita: Battle An- gel," 2019), Garret Dillahunt ("Raising Hope"), Eric Johnson ("The Knick"), Michelle Krusiec ("Hawaii Five-0"), Veronica Fal- cón ("Queen of the South"), Sa- rayu Blue ("I Feel Bad"), Julio Cesar Cedillo ("Cowboys & Aliens," 2011), Bobby Soto ("Flamin' Hot," 2023) and Ash- ley Ciarra ("Chupa," 2023). WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "Love at First Sight" (2023) Love goes international with the new rom-com "Love at First Sight," when it premieres Friday, Sept. 15, on Netflix. After missing her flight from New York to Lon- don, Hadley's (Haley Lu Richard- son, "The White Lotus") plans are put on hold while she finds a new flight. When a chance encounter in the airport with Oliver (Ben Hardy, "Bohemian Rhapsody," 2018) leads to a long night on a plane together that passes in the blink of an eye, the pair are left wondering if love at first sight can really happen. When the pair are separated in the chaos of Heathrow Airport, they'll have to try everything they can to make their way back to each other. Based on the novel "The Statisti- cal Probability of Love at First Sight" by Jennifer E. Smith, "Love at First Sight" is directed by Van- essa Caswill ("Thirteen") with a screenplay by Katie Lovejoy ("To All the Boys: Always and Forever," 2021). "Wrestlers" - Season 1 Follow along with a mission to preserve a legacy in the new docuseries "Wrestlers," premier- ing Wednesday, Sept. 13, on Net- flix. Run by acclaimed wrestler Al Snow, who clings to an old school wrestling philosophy with a heavy emphasis on storytelling, Ohio Valley Wrestling of Louis- ville, Kentucky, is a regional wres- tling gym whose alumni include Brock Lesnar, The Miz, John Cena, Dave Bautista and Randy Orton. But despite its A-list alumni and the love of some diehard fans, the gym is struggling to stay rele- vant and keep its doors open. Forced to sell a majority stake to a group of local businessmen — including Matt Jones, the most popular radio personality in the state of Kentucky — the gym's new infusion of much-needed cash hasn't been enough to get the gym back up and running in the black. With the new owner- ship giving Al the summer to turn things back around, the series chronicles his efforts, along with the help of his band of aspiring wrestlers, as they balance their personal struggles and ambitions while coming together to save the historic gym.
