Defending Tour de France Champion, Jonas Vingegaard This week's Best bets By Michelle Rose TV Media End of an era: After 19 sea- sons of saying "Please pack your knives and go," Padma Lakshmi has packed her own knives, so to speak, and has vacated her post as host of "Top Chef." Lakshmi announced her depar- ture last month on Instagram, where she posted the following: "After much soul searching, I have made the difficult decision to leave Top Chef. Having com- pleted a glorious 20th season as host and executive producer, I am extremely proud to have been part of building such a suc- cessful show and of the impact it has had in the worlds of televi- sion and food. After 17 years, many of the cast and crew are like family to me and I will miss working alongside them dearly." Lakshmi first joined "Top Chef" in 2006, when she replaced Season 1 host Katie Lee. Despite being relatively unknown to TV audiences and critics, the former model was reportedly Bravo's first choice to host. A prior commitment to filming a miniseries is the reason Lakshmi joined for Season 2, but she has hosted every season since, and her time on "Top Chef" earned her 13 Emmy nominations — including three in the Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program category. Lakshmi's Instagram post gave a pretty compelling reason for her departure: the need to focus on other projects. "I feel it's time to move on and need to make space for 'Taste the Nation' [her solo Hulu series], my books and other creative pursuits. I am deeply thankful to all of you for so many years of love and support." "Padma Lakshmi leaves behind an incredible legacy on Bravo's 'Top Chef,'" an NBCUniversal spokesperson stat- ed when asked for comment by The Hollywood Reporter.
