You worked hard to pre- pare yourself, and your efforts were rewarded. You were chosen and given one the highest positions in the company. You can't wait to tell all of your friends and relatives. Then, you discover that the purpose of your position is greater than you could ever imagine. This happened to Esther in the bible. She was very excited about being chosen queen until she found out it was never about her, but about a greater purpose. Her people were about to be killed and she has been given the opportunity to save their lives. The problem is that she could lose her position and her life. She had a choice to make. Esther 4:14 (AMP) says, "For if you remain silent at this time, liberation and rescue will arise for the Jews from another place, and you and your father's house will perish [since you did not help when you had the chance]. And who knows whether you have attained royalty for such a time as this [and for this very purpose]?" INFLUENCE All of us have been given spheres of influence: fam- ily, jobs, community etc. The bulk of our time is spent working 40 plus hours a week. Have you considered that maybe that position was given not just so you could have income, but that you have been positioned to honor God? The number one way to honor God on a job is to be ex- cellent. Be early, not just on time, take the initiative to perform extra duties without being told, and always put your best foot forward when you complete your tasks. Co- lossians 3:23 (ISV) says, "Whatever you do, work at it wholeheartedly as though you were doing it for the Lord and not merely for people." Also, humility, generosity, and prayer are other ways to honor God in the workplace. However, sometimes God invites us to a more difficult challenge like standing up to an injustice that may cost us our jobs. In those situations as in everything, we need to seek God for guidance, wisdom, and courage. Deuter- onomy 31:8 (ESV) says, "It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed." PRAY THIS PRAYER: "Father, you are full of majesty, splendor and glory. I adore you for your excellence and greatness. Forgive me when I represented you poorly on the job because I had a negative attitude or I didn't display gratitude that you blessed me with employment. Help me to always repre- sent you well. People are hurting; please use me to touch their lives in a positive way. I yield to your will. Give me courage to stand up to injustices. May I please you in everything I say and do so that you receive the glory and praise. In Jesus' name - Amen." Danyale Patterson would love to hear from you! Fortunately, it only takes a moment to help pre- vent one as well. Protect kids and communities by safely securing your fire- arms, NC Department of Public Safety recom- mends you take these steps to secure your firearm and protect your loved ones. Safe Storage 101 1. Gun Safe is the most secure option. Can include biometric or elec- tronic locking features. 2. Lockbox can be por- table or bolted down for additional security. There are also options designed specifically for use in ve- hicles. 3. Gun Case can be used to safely secure your firearms at home and be- yond. 4. Cable Lock uses a cable threaded through the barrel or action to pre- vent someone else from firing the gun. 5. Trigger Lock fits eas- ily over the trigger guard to prevent the trigger from being pulled. Store Your Firearm Safely These simple tips can save a life. 1. Unload your firearm: It is best practice to always unload your gun when it's not in use. Take the time to familiar- ize yourself with how to unload and clean your specific firearm. When unloading, make sure the muzzle is pointed in a safe direction, preferably to the ground. Remove ammunition, and triple- check that the chamber is unloaded. Never let your guard down: Remember to always handle your gun carefully, as if it is still loaded. 2. Lock it up. There are several ways to safely lock up your fire- arm, including gun safes, lockboxes, gun cases, cable locks, and trigger locks. Some of these now include biometric and electronic lock options. For an additional layer of security, consider sepa- rating ammunition and firearms when locking them up. 3. Make sure it stays locked. If your gun lock uses a key, make sure you're the only one who knows where it's hidden. If the lock uses a combination or code, don't use one that an older child might be able to guess, such as a birthday, an anniver- sary, or the last four digits of your phone number. 4. Don't leave it unse- cure in a car. More and more guns in North Carolina are being stolen out of parked cars. If you leave a gun in your car, make sure the gun is out of sight and secured with a lock or in a gun case. Consider storage options designed spe- cifically for vehicles, and don't forget to lock your car too.
