Entertainment Now | May 6 - 12, 2023 By Raye Smith TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "The Mother" (2023) Never get between a mother and her kids, especially this one: Netflix's newest action thriller flick, "The Mother," premieres on the streamer Friday, May 12. Jen- nifer Lopez ("Shotgun Wedding," 2022) stars as the film's titular mother, a deadly assassin who gave up her daughter, Zoe (Lucy Paez, "The Exorcism of Carmen Farias," 2021), years before for her own protection. Now, with her daughter's life — and her own — in grave danger, she em- barks on an action-packed, globe-spanning journey to keep her safe from a group of danger- ous men from her old life. From director Niki Caro ("McFarland, USA," 2015), "The Mother" fea- tures a screenplay by Misha Green ("Lovecraft Country"), An- drea Berloff ("Straight Outta Compton," 2015) and Peter Craig ("Top Gun: Maverick," 2022). The film also stars Joesph Fiennes ("Shakespeare in Love," 1998), Paul Raci ("Sound of Met- al," 2019), Gael Garcia Bernal ("Mozart in the Jungle") and Omari Hardwick ("Power"). "Queer Eye" - Season 7 The Fab 5 are back and ready to give more deserving, everyday Americans life-changing trans- formations when Season 7 of the heartfelt, 10-time Emmy-winning reality series, "Queer Eye," pre- mieres on Netflix Friday, May 12. For six seasons, the co-hosts have traveled through small- town America, helping bring a lit- tle bit of fabulous to people who deserve it by helping them re- vamp their home, their relation- ship with food, their mindset, their style and their personal grooming habits. Now, this re- boot of the original series from the early 2000s — which took on Georgia, Kansas, Missouri, Penn- sylvania and Texas in previous seasons, in addition to interna- tional excursions to Japan and the town of Yass in New South Wales — is taking on New Or- leans. As they tear their way through the Big Easy, design spe- cialist Bobby Berk, fashion phe- nom Tan France, cooking con- noisseur Antoni Porowski, cul- ture/lifestyle coach Karamo Brown and grooming extraordi- naire Jonathan Van Ness help a new cast of heroes create a new life for themselves — with a spe- cial surprise or two for them along the way. WHAT'S NEW ON DISNEY+ "The Muppets Mayhem" Rock on with the Muppets on Disney+ once again when the new 10-episode family comedy series, "The Muppets Mayhem," premieres Wednesday, May 10. After decades of rocking success and world tours, The Electric May- hem Band has accomplished ev- erything they could hope for — except for releasing their own al- bum. Now, the band — including Dr. Teeth (Bill Barretta, "The Mup- pets," 2011) on vocals and key- boards, Animal (Eric Jacobson, "Sesame Street") on drums, Sgt. Floyd Pepper (Matt Vogel, "Sesa- me Street") on vocals and bass, Janice (David Rudman, "Muppets Most Wanted," 2014) on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot (David Goelz, "Fraggle Rock") on saxo- phone and Lips (Peter Linz, "Bear in the Big Blue House") on trum- pet — is embarking on an epic, music-filled journey to record their very first studio album. With the help of Nora (Lilly Singh, "Bad Moms," 2016), a driven young music executive, the old school Muppet band learns how to navi- gate the world of modern music as they bring their hit sound to the people at home. Based on characters created by Jim Henson ("The Muppet Show"), "The Muppets Mayhem" is created by Barretta, Adam F. Goldberg ("The Goldbergs") and Jeff Yorkes ("The Return of Return of the Jedi: 30 Years and Counting," 2013) and directed by Matt Sohn ("The Office") and Robert Cohen ("Somebody Somewhere"). Tahj Mowry ("Smart Guy"), Anders Holm ("Workaholics") and Saara Chaudry ("Holly Hobbie") also star. WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "The Great" - Season 3 The critically acclaimed, semi- historical comedy-drama series "The Great" returns to Hulu with its third season Friday, May 12, and this time the royal couple is making it work (sort of). A loose, comedic retelling of the story of 18th-century Russian Monarch Catherine the Great, portrayed by Elle Fanning ("Super 8," 2011), the series follows the young Cath- erine's life from rural outsider to Russia's longest-reigning female ruler and her marriage to Emperor Peter III (Nicholas Hoult, "Ren- field," 2023). This season, as Cath- erine and Peter attempt to make their marriage work after enduring a series of seemingly insurmount- able problems, Catherine starts making a name for herself across international borders, and Peter busies himself with fathering, hunting and culinary adventures. While Peter grapples with his own perceived failures as a leader — personified by his late father, Peter the Great, played by Jason Isaacs ("Operation Mincemeat," 2021) — Catherine learns that some- times even great leaders need to compromise to make progress. Created, written and executive produced by Tony McNamara ("The Favourite," 2018). 10 | Streaming Waltman Flooring 2 x 2" Family Services 2 x 1.5" Jennifer Lopez stars in "The Mother" Kokomo Speedway 2 x 2" Friendship Haven 2 x 2"
