Brainerd Dispatch • April 16 - 22, 2023 •19 "Greek Salad" - Season 1 Pack your bags (and bring the feta!) — a unique story of exploration, connection and family, the first season of "Greek Salad" premieres Friday, April 14, on Prime Video. Set 25 years after the events of the "L'Auberge Espagnole" trilogy — the last movie of which, "Chi- nese Puzzle," was released in 2013 — the series focuses on the grown children of Xavier (Romain Duris, "Vernon Subutex") and Wendy (Kelly Reilly, "Yellow- stone"), as they set out on an adventure of a lifetime. Following the death of their grandfather, Tom (Aliocha Schneider, "Germinal") and his sister, Mia (Megan Northam, "Notre-Dame"), inherit a property in Athens, Greece. Tom leaves the city and his promising career to join his sister halfway across the globe. Once there, Tom learns that Mia has been living a double life, pretend- ing to be an Erasmus student while spending her time as a rebel activist. In the midst of clashing personalities, opinions and lifestyles, Tom and Mia find themselves doing whatever they must in pursuit of their shared in- heritance. Directed by the creator of the original trilogy, Cédric Klapisch ("The Spanish Apartment," 2002), and written by his wife, Lola Doillon ("Fanny's Journey," 2016), "Greek Salad" was produced by Bruno Levy ("Paris," 2008) for Ce qui me meut. "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" (2011) For a double shot of intrigue and espionage, watch "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," available now on Prime Video. First a spy novel by British author John le Carré, then a TV series at the tail-end of the 1970s, the 2011 thriller is a Cold War-era story that constantly reinvents itself. Starring Oscar-winners Gary Oldman ("Slow Horses") and Colin Firth ("The King's Speech," 2010) as George Smiley and Bill Haydon (respectively), and Tom Hardy ("Peaky Blinders") as MI6 field agent Ricki Tarr, the film tells the story of Smiley, a spy forced out of retirement to uncover a Soviet double agent at the top of the British secret service. Nominated for three Oscars — including a Best Actor nod for Oldman — "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" also stars Mark Strong ("Kingsman: The Secret Service," 2014), Benedict Cumberbatch ("Sherlock") and John Hurt ("1984," 1984). "The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die" (2023) The epic saga of "The Last Kingdom" wraps up with the follow-up film, "The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die," when it premieres on Netflix Friday, April 14. Based on the Saxon Stories series of novels by Bernard Cornwell, "The Last Kingdom" is set in England in the first century, as a century-long war has raged through the land between its inhabitants and the Danish invad - ers, with a tentative peace settled between nearly everyone — except Lord Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alex- ander Dreymon, "American Horror Story"), ruling over Northumbria, who has yet to pledge his land to the throne. But, when King Edward (Timothy Innes, "Har- lots") dies, the peace is threatened once again as his two potential heirs, Aethelstan (Harry Gilby, "Tolkien," 2019) and Aelfweard (Ewan Horrocks, "Domina"), battle to claim the crown. Faced with difficult decisions about the future of the country, Uhtred and his cohort embark on a journey across the country in the hopes of uniting England at last. Directed by Edward Bazalgette ("Marie Antoinette") with a screenplay by executive producer Martha Hillier ("Vera"), "The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die" is produced by Mat Chaplin ("Fortitude"), Nigel Marchant ("Downton Abbey") and Gareth Neame ("The Gilded Age"). Mark Rowley ("Guns Akimbo," 2019), Arnas Fedaravicius ("Glia," 2020), Ingrid Garcia Jonsson ("Beautiful Youth," 2014), Rod Hallett ("Terra Nova"), James Northcote ("The Imitation Game," 2014), Laurie Davidson ("Will"), Ross Anderson ("The King's Man," 2021), Tom Chris - tian ("Gangs of London"), Zak Sutcliffe ("No Offence") and Nick Wittman ("Mars") also star.
