The Rutherford County Arts Council (RCAC) has announced the leading cast for the upcoming production of "The Adventures of Pinocchio," a musical play by Diane McEnnerney, based on the book by Carlo Collodi. The play is an adaptation of the beloved Italian children's story about a wooden puppet and his mischievous adventures, originally published in Italian in 1882 and translated to English by Carol Della Chisea. "There have been many adaptations of Pinocchio," says director Laura Link, "but none that I have seen have been as faithful to the original as Mrs. McEnnerney's version. If you think you already know Pinocchio, you may be surprised by what you see onstage." Leading the cast of 70 local actors of all ages will be Alex Lane as Pinocchio, Don McKinney as his poor woodcarver father, Geppetto, and Jonah Millwood as the storyteller Carlo Collodi. Alex Lane is the son of Paul & Kim Lane and is a student at East Rutherford Middle School. He has performed with the RCAC in Cinderella and The Wizard of Oz, as well as performing in church plays at Grace Chapel Foursquare Church. He is a baseball player for East Middle, loves video games and fi shing. Don McKinney has been acting for over 10 years and was most recently seen on the RCAC stage as Elwood P. Dowd in "Harvey," and as Maxim De Winter in "Rebecca." Don works at Food Lion, and is an accomplished singer and pianist. Jonah Millwood has performed many roles in RCAC shows including the Prince in "Cinderella," and Jack Favell in "Rebecca." He is the Technology Technician at Rutherfordton Elementary School and is a worship leader at Element Church. The play is directed by Laura Link, with musical direction by Gale Wilson, and choreography by Layla Gaddy. Performances will be at 7pm on Friday, May 5 and at 3pm on Saturday, May 4 at R-S Central High School Auditorium. Tickets are $15 general admission and will be available beginning April 1 at tix.com and at the door.
