The hype around the tastiest of networks' newest show has been building for a while now, and come Aug. 11, "Cutthroat Kitchen" will finally see the light of day. As should be expected, coming from a network that's found great success with its slate of cooking competition shows, it thrusts chefs into a strange kitchen to test their cooking mettle with uncommon or unusual ingredients — but with an insidious twist. In "Cutthroat Kitchen," cooking skills aren't enough to win (although they're certainly a good thing to have). Each episode's four contestants are given a big wad of cash straight up, and before each challenge, they're given the opportunity to bid on culinary curveballs. And just what are these curveballs? Well, perhaps one of the contestants will win the exclusive right to use salt in her cooking. Or maybe replacing all of the other contestants' knives with plastic ones would be a bit more cutthroat. In a sure sign that the Food Network believes it has a winner on its hands with "Cutthroat Kitchen," it has pulled out the big guns when it comes to hosting. Probably best known for his long-running food science show "Good Eats," which now airs on the Cooking Channel, Brown's solidified his "nice guy" image as the alwayscharming host of "Iron Chef America." Of course, he's also been one of the three celebrity chefs in the past two seasons of "Food Network Star," where audiences have gotten to see his harder, more competitive side. It's a side of him that the "Cutthroat Kitchen" contestants may get to see a lot more of as he springs his devilish twists on the competition. "Cutthroat Kitchen's" looking like a blend of "Chopped's" think-on-your-feet-in-bizarresituations mentality with "Top Chef's" how-can-I-best-takeout-my-competition line of thought.
