Cheyanne Stirewalt, daughter of Richard and Sandra Stirewalt and a member of Troop 20282, educated children in the community about the history that surrounds them in historical Kings Mountain. To do this, Stirewalt created a video that captured the history behind the battle of Kings Mountain and shared it with children in a local school. Because of her project, the students came to appreciate their history-filled town that helped shape America. By earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, Stirewalt has become a community leader. Her accomplishments reflect leadership and citizenship skills that set her apart. "Earning the Girl Scout Gold Award designation is truly a remarkable achievement, and this young woman exemplifies leadership in all its forms," said Marcia Cole, chief executive officer of Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont. "She saw a need in her community and took action. Her extraordinary dedication, perseverance and leadership, is making the world a better place." The Gold Award represents the highest achievement in Girl Scouting; it recognizes girls in grades 9 through 12 who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through sustainable and measurable Take Action projects. After the minimum requirements are completed, the Gold Award project is the culmination of a girl's demonstration of selfdiscipline, leadership ability, time management, creativity, initiative and a significant mastery of skills. Each girl must dedicate a minimum of 80 hours to planning and implementing her project, which must benefit the community and have long lasting impact. Since 1916, girls have successfully answered the call to go gold, an act that indelibly marks them as accomplished members of their communities and the world. Some universities and colleges offer scholarships unique to Gold Award recipients, and girls who enlist in the Cheyanne Stirewalt First Baptist Church The Masters House Celebrates Eighth Anniversary 120 N. The Masters House, founded by David Piercy, celebrated their eight anniversary with a gathering of Masters' House residents, graduates, supporters, friends and families, whocame together to offer praise for the ministry. The celebration was held at Love Valley Baptist Church in Kings Mountain on Saturday July 27th. After an opening prayer and the singing of "Amazing Grace" by Michael Lindsay, Assistant Pastor at Love Valley, David Piercy continued his unrelenting thanks to everyone present and to all those who support and believe in The Masters House program. He thanked God for the men who have been at the house. Over 350 men from all walks of life have passed through its doors. Some have been there several times, before committing themselves to seeking a path which "has always been there to welcome them." Spencer Smith, a graduate of this uplifting program gave testimony. He is now Minister of students at Double Springs Baptist Church in Lattimore. He said: "...I was hiding from God. I was running away. I was being selfish. Now, I'm working for Graduates and members of The Masters House – (l to r) front row: Donald the Lord." He credits The Masters House with guiding him and Hunter, Chris Sizemore, Ron Bagwell and Keiffer Hamm. Back Row: Scotty putting him on the proper path. He spent 13 months at The Edwards, Spencer Smith, David Piercy, Danny Faller and Gerald Roberts. Masters House. David is very proud of Spencer, for his help, his achievements and his new direction. He said that Spencer Smith is another part of "God's work." Another young man, who had been in and out of the Program five times, offered these endearing words as he too gave testimony. Ron Bagwell could hardly contain himself as he related what The Masters House has meant and done for him. He now wants to become a preacher and "tell people what they need to hear, not what they want to hear." The celebration embodied a collection of the grateful, the loving, the healing and the healed. The Masters House continues to save and raise money for a new 10 bedroom home. Last year they had raised $22,000. As they celebrated their eighth anniversary, David reported that they presently had $33,700. Their goal is $50,000 for a down payment. He said: "It's always in God's hands and He hasn't disappointed us yet!" After presenting a "thank you" plaque to Scott and Tammy Greene for their tremendous support, David introduced Love Valley's Pastor, Barry Philbeck.
