(ORIGINAL) 10 • Terre Haute Tribune-Star • August 14 - 20, 2022 BEST RAQUEL WELCH MOVIES "Fantastic Voyage" (1966) There's nothing wrong with Welch's character having physical beauty on display as well as scientific knowledge in this sci-fi classic largely set inside a human body. "One Million Years B.C." (1966) A skimpily dressed Welch is as much an attraction as the dinosaurs – which the ads weren't shy about promoting – in this fantasy update. It's part of Turner Classic Movies' all-day "Summer Under the Stars" salute to Welch on Tuesday, Aug. 16. "Fathom" (1967) Welch got her James Bond moment as a skydiver enmeshed in espionage. "Bedazzled" (1967) The role of Lust goes to Welch in this comedy, conceived by then-creative partners Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, that involves the Seven Deadly Sins. "Lady in Cement" (1968) In this sequel to "Tony Rome," the private eye is both helped and hindered by Welch's alluring character while probing a woman's described-by-the-title death. "Bandolero!" (1968) Welch got to team with two more screen legends, James Stewart and Dean Martin, in this Western. "100 Rifles" (1969) Welch went back to Western territory as an advocate for an oppressed group potentially helped by a revolutionary (Burt Reynolds). "Hannie Caulder" (1972) in Western mode again, Welch has good reason in the title role to learn the art of revenge. "Kansas City Bomber" (1972) Welch certainly takes her lumps with a rarely tackled movie themed in this drama about a roller-derby star. "Fuzz" (1972) Along with Burt Reynolds and Jack Weston disguised as nuns, Welch is among the stars satirizing police work as an undercover detective in this Boston-set comedy-with-dramatic- touches. "The Three Musketeers" (1973) Welch plays the fair Constance, the true love of D'Artagnan (Michael York), in director Richard Lester's star-packed take on the adventure classic. "The Last of Sheila" (1973) In this intriguing, uniquely spirited mystery written by Stephen Sondheim and Anthony Perkins, Welch plays one of several friends invited on a cruise meant to solve the death of the host's (James Coburn) wife. "Mother, Jugs & Speed" (1976) Two ambulance companies, one of which employs Welch's character, compete in Los Angeles in this comedy-drama. "Crossed Swords" (1977) Welch went classic again with this retelling of "The Prince and the Pauper," featuring Mark Lester ("Oliver!") as the look-alikes. "Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult" (1994) In the concluding chapter of the police- parody franchise, Welch turns up as herself in a sequence set at the Oscar ceremony.
