POWELL CF Media writer michael@cfmedia.info Camps Creek Baptist Church, located in Mooresboro, NC, is celebrating a big milestone – a two centuries-old milestone! They have been around for 200 years, doing God's work, and are look- ing forward to celebrating that two-century mark with a month of amazing events and sermons starting Aug. 6, 2022. Pastor Steve Durham said recently they are "…celebrating what God has done over these 200 years", adding that their lon- gevity, as he noted, "Only God can sustain that! He has written a wonderful history here and we believe He has more to write!" The church's committee of eight has been working very hard to make all of this come together, as Pastor Durham noted, and he added, "They have done a very good job." According to a printed his- tory, 38 believers, led by Elder Benjamin Berryman Hicks, estab- lished the church on Aug. 22, 1822 on an acre of ground sold to early founders Lewis Jones, John Humphries, and Davis Humphries for the purpose of a Camps Creek Meeting House. Elder Hicks was called as the church's first pastor. His gravestone is one of the oldest in the church's cemetery, though not the oldest. Currently there are roughly 300 people on the church rolls and the church has had about 59 pastors over their many years (not counting interim pastors). According to their Facebook page, the following is a list of planned events: Saturday, Aug. 6: the Kick-Off at the church with Rev. Dale Welch at 3 p.m., fol- lowed by playing some old-timey games. Jimmy McKee and his bluegrass gospel group will sing at 4. Hamburgers and hotdogs (with all the trimmings) will be served around 5:30 and the evening will end with Strings of Victory in con- cert. On Sunday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m., former pastor, Troy Harris, will speak during the morning worship service and several people will share memories of Camps Creek. Their 6 p.m. service will have an "Old Hymn Sing" and a special video. Then, on Sunday, 14, it is noted that at 11 a.m., former pastor David Rabb will bring the morning message and there will be more special memories shared. For that day's evening service, the congregation will be meet- ing with Boiling Springs Baptist Church, who is celebrating their 175th anniversary and Sandy Run Baptist Church, who is celebrating their 225th anniversary at Boiling Springs Baptist Church, at 6 p.m. There will be a fun time of singing and eating home-made ice cream. On Sunday, Aug. 21, at 11a.m., come dressed for the part as this will be "Old Fashioned Day". The church is hoping the women and girls will dress in their 'old timey' dresses and bonnets, while the men and boys will be in their old coveralls. Pastor Durham, as noted on the church's Facebook site, "will be leading (the) morning worship service." More memories will be shared during that ser- vice and New Mercy will be shar- ing special music. Following that morning service, they will have a covered dish luncheon in the fellowship hall. The church will provide fried chicken and ham and there will be no evening services. The last anniversary service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m., with former pastor, Buddy See CAMPS CREEK, Page 3 Like Us On Facebook! HOURS: HOURS: 8AM-6PM • MON-.SAT. TWO DAYS ONLY!
