Thursday, July 14-July 20, 2022 www.shelbyinfo.com 704/484-1047 - shelby shopper & info - Page 11 In my area there are a few small streams which feed into the rivers. When I say small, I mean only about ten to fi fteen yards wide. Several times each spring our wildlife agency releases trout into these shallow streams to offer more opportunities to catch fi sh. There have been several times I have went on an early morning turkey hunt, then afterwards go home and grab my spinning reel and head back to one of these creeks for a couple of hours of trout fi shing. It really is a fun way to spend a morning. I can remember the fi rst time I took my son and introduced him to this new type of fi shing. He was an older teenager and I could tell he was a little skeptical when I pulled up to the little creek that seemed too shallow to hold any fi sh of consequence. I knew what he was thinking because I too had shared this sentiment. It really does look like if there were any fi sh in this creek you would quickly be able to see them. After convincing him the fi sh were there, we proceeded to wet a line. It didn't take long for him to understand that what looked to be too small, too shallow, unproductive, void, and barren could actually hold great potential. What he needs to learn is that life is exactly the same way. I'm glad he decided to fi sh that day instead of allowing what he saw to determine what he did. Let me write that again so you will get it. I'm glad he didn't allow what he saw to determine what he did. If he had, he would've missed a good time and a great harvest. Some of you are getting up each morning and looking at your day as my son did this creek. When you give it the eye test it seems what lies in front of you is too small and too shallow to hold anything of real value. It may even seem God has given you a Ranger Bass Boat, but only a stream to fi sh in. But what you must remember is that faith is more about seeing through the eye than it is in seeing with the eye. Faith doesn't look at the small and insignifi cant stream, but it remembers the God who has stocked it. Faith simply casts its bread on the waters without regard for the past, present, or future; knowing that if God can bring salvation from a cross, He can bring big blessings from my little brook. These artists will share work shown last summer in a group exhibit at Duke Hospital, which was open only to caregivers, pa- tients, and their families; art they sent to each other in the U.S. Mail ("Mail Art"); and works they have made more recently dur- ing this uncertain time of emergence. The artwork ranges from charming and playful to the serious, beautiful, disturbing, and thought provoking. The exhibit is on dis- play at Cleveland County Arts Council, 111 S. Washington St., Shelby. The exhibit will remain up through August 11. Accordion books, but- ton books, collages, printmaking, retablo in- stallation, books in boxes, postcards, and book- marks are just some of the forms of art that mem- bers of North Carolina's Triangle Book Arts (TBA) have created to commu- nicate and express hope during the isolation of the pandemic. Accustomed to sharing their work and meeting to share skills, swap supplies, and show their latest work in com- munity workshops, the group sought ways to communicate and share in new and challenging circumstances. Book art embraces a surprising array of skills and approaches from let- terpress printing to ori- gami, collage, painting, and photography. TBA members define "book art" widely, from art that uses and plays with forms of the book as a medium of expression to any work that refers to the book as an idea or form of inspira- tion. The Arts Council is open Mon. – Friday, 9:00 – 4:00 and Satur- day from 10:00 – 2:00.
