After six years of hosting "Deadline: Crime With Tamron Hall" for Investigation Discovery, she had had enough of the sadness and pain she heard from families of murder victims. She was pregnant at the time and feared for how it might affect her unborn child. And she, herself, deeply felt their pain, having lost a sister to murder in 2004, a crime that is still unsolved. But in "Someone They Knew ... With Tamron Hall," the veteran journalist and "Tamron Hall" talk host was drawn in. Premiering Sunday, March 6, on Court TV, the hourlong series posits that when it comes to murder, it is rare for there to be no prior connection between killer and victim. Told from the perspective of those impacted by the crime, it follows the path from victim to verdict, dissecting all the elements, from the moment the two parties met to when a jury renders its decision. It's a show that Hall is uniquely qualified to host. "I think at some point we can envision ourselves as a juror or even sadly a victim of something like this," Hall says. "It is unimaginable in some respects but in other ways it's not. You walk out to a parking lot and you look around for a reason because you think it can happen to you. "We all know domestic violence and how it has no economic barrier, no race, no gender barrier," she continues. "And we all know that women who are victims of violent crime are often killed by a man in their life. So we understand how it can, sadly, so easily be someone they knew." Sunday's opener flips that script and explores the case of Lance Herndon, a respected, well-to- do businessman who was found bludgeoned to death in his suburban Atlanta home in August 1996, a crime for which his lover was eventually arrested and convicted on charges of voluntary manslaughter. "That story in itself was just fascinating ...," Hall says. "We always believe wealth and fame brings a much more glamorous life. Right? You're untouchable to these things. But in fact, you're not. And I think that his case and all of it just really – I don't like using the word bizarre but it definitely (was), even how it was solved."
