(ORIGINAL) "Movie: My Best Friend Anne Frank" Alison Leslie Gold's 1999 book "Memories of Anne Frank: Reflections of a Childhood Friend" served as the basis of director Ben Sombogaart's 2021 drama about the friendship between Holocaust victim and diarist Anne Frank and nurse Hannah Goslar, which is told from Goslar's perspective. "Marvel Super Hero Adventures: Frost Fight" (Available now) This 2015 holiday-themed direct-to-video animated actioner from the Marvel universe follows the Marvel Heroes as they unite to try and stop Loki and the frost giant Ymir from conquering the world as the duo try to steal Santa's powers to do so. Mick Wingert, Matthew Mercer and Travis Willingham head the voice cast. (ORIGINAL) 10 • Terre Haute Tribune-Star • February 27 - March 5, 2022 BEST VINCENTE MINNELLI MOVIES "Cabin in the Sky" (1943) Hollywood royalty in his own right, Liza Minnelli's father directed this all-Black musical about a gambler who gets a second chance at life. The cast also includes Ethel Waters and Lena Horne. "Meet Me in St. Louis" (1944) Minnelli directed then-wife-to-be Judy Garland in this enduring, family- centric musical set around the 1904 World's Fair. "Ziegfeld Follies" (1945) The heavenly image of showman Florenz Ziegfeld Jr. (William Powell) engineers a new stage show, with Garland featured as "The Star," in this Minnelli-directed musical. "Till the Clouds Roll By" (1946) Composer Jerome Kern (Robert Walker) finds success overseas before scoring big on Broadway. "The Pirate" (1948) A circus performer (Gene Kelly) falls for a woman (Judy Garland) whose relatives want her to marry the local mayor (Walter Slezak). "Father of the Bride" (1950) Spencer Tracy is the harried dad of the young wife-to-be in this ever- classic comedy, included in a Turner Classic Movies birthday tribute to Minnelli on Monday, Feb. 28. "An American in Paris" (1951) One of the greatest of all musicals features terrific dance numbers, with Gene Kelly showcased in one of the most famous ones of all time. "The Bad and the Beautiful" (1952) A ruthless movie producer (Kirk Douglas) uses everyone in his orbit to his own advantage. "The Band Wagon" (1953) Three friends (Fred Astaire, Oscar Levant, Nanette Fabray) try to maintain their vision of staging a show against others' loftier intentions. "The Long, Long Trailer" (1954) Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz were huge television stars by the time they made this comedy about spouses with different ideas about housing. "Brigadoon" (1954) The Alan Jay Lerner musical takes two Americans (Gene Kelly, Van Johnson) to an enchanted Scottish village. "Kismet" (1955) A poet (Howard Keel) has his own agenda in assuming control of a harem. "Lust for Life" (1956) Kirk Douglas is mesmerizing as tormented artist Vincent Van Gogh; Minnelli directed co-star Anthony Quinn to an Oscar win. "Tea and Sympathy" (1956) The wife (Deborah Kerr) of a school's headmaster takes a special interest in a troubled student (John Kerr). "Designing Woman" (1957) Gregory Peck and Lauren Bacall make a terrific romantic-comedy couple as a sportswriter and a fashion designer who marry before fully thinking it through. "Gigi" (1958) Leslie Caron sparkles in the title role of the musical about a young woman and a playboy (Louis Jourdan) who try to stay platonic; co-star Maurice Chevalier is one of the film's hallmarks. "Some Came Running" (1958) A military veteran (Frank Sinatra) gets involved in various complications upon returning to his hometown. "Bells Are Ringing" (1960) Judy Holliday shines as a meddling but well-meaning answering-service operator in this Betty Comden-Adolph Green musical. "Two Weeks in Another Town" (1962) A former movie star (Kirk Douglas) seeks redemption by making the most of a job he gets in Rome. "The Courtship of Eddie's Father" (1963) Young Eddie (the then-so-named Ronny Howard) tries to guide his widower father's (Glenn Ford) love life.
