ASK ABOUT ASK ABOUT 0% INTEREST 0% INTEREST Shelby Mission Camp to provide Thanksgiving meals Thanksgiving is coming very soon, and many in our community will be in need of a warm meal on this day of celebration. Shelby Mission Camp (SMC) will be there to help these valued citizens. "We will be providing meals to the handicapped, senior adults, as well as on-duty Shelby police and Cleveland County law enforcement personnel, Shelby fire personnel and Cleveland County EMS workers," says David Brown, SMC director. "And since this is a large undertaking, we need quite a few volunteers to pull this off." Individuals, churches or organiza- tions are encouraged to volunteer to help for this event, which will take place on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2021. "We need people to help in numerous ways," says Brown. "Community members can be involved by delivering meals, cook- ing, cleaning up, working on the serving line, counseling folks in the drive-through line and baking desserts." Brown says the organization will be taking special safety measures due to Covid-19. "All delivery teams will sign in upon arriv- ing and line up out- side," he says. "Orders will be brought out and loaded for the delivery teams." Delivery orders will be loaded between 10:40 a.m. – 12 noon, according to Brown. Drive-through pickup will begin at noon and continue until the food runs out or at 1:30 p.m. "Once again this year, we will not be hosting inside dining – just the delivery and the pickup will be available," says Brown. In addition to volunteers, SMC is also seeking financial support to cover the costs of the meals. "Last year we served 1,100 meals at approximately $3.75 per meal," says Brown. "We hope that churches, organiza- tions and individuals will find a way to contribute to this very worthwhile work." Brown says that through the years, many volunteers and donors have shared with him how blessed they and their family were through participat- ing in the Thanksgiving meal. "We hope that folks will pray about being a part of this important community outreach to seniors, handicapped, the needy and first responders."
