Premiering Sunday, Aug. 22, it casts Brody – also an executive producer of the show – as Capt. Charles Boone, a recent-widower 18th- century seafarer who takes his children (played by Jennifer Ens, Sirena Gulamgaus and Ian Ho) to live at a Maine family homestead, which in typical King fashion has a terrifying history. Emily Hampshire ("Schitt's Creek") also stars as an aspiring journalist who becomes the youngsters' new governess. "I have no problem sustaining moodiness," Brody says with a hearty laugh. "I have to work very hard to sustain a sense of elation or joy. That's more in my roles than with me, but let's just say I have a 'moody' knack. I love Stephen King's work, and I feel that he also knows how to elicit a deep foreboding or longing, and I embraced the chance to step into the shoes of someone who really had some serious adversity. "I think this really comes down to a man just striving to do the best he can," Brody reasons of his "Chapelwaite" alter ego. "He's a very prepared person, but all these frightening things keep piling up. I also loved the period aspect to this; anything becomes more heightened if you look at it from the perspective of the mid-1800s. We have a lot of luxuries now. You can just Google something now, but if something strange happened then, you were really out there on your own." Nova Scotia doubles for Maine in "Chapelwaite," and Brody believes the atmosphere helps immensely with the series' overall effect: "The architecture of the older homes there and the open spaces and the water, all of that adds a sense of authenticity. They also built remarkable sets for this, the entire village of Preacher's Corners, and that's additional material for you to connect to." Commending fellow executive producers Jason Filardi and Peter Filardi for their adaptation of the King story, Brody – who also is featured in the forthcoming Season 3 of the acclaimed HBO series "Succession" – appreciates having Hampshire, cast more recently in the title role of TBS' forthcoming remake of Norman Lear's satire "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman," as his leading lady in "Chapelwaite." "Emily brings a lightness and a hopefulness that's very nice" to the saga, Brody notes, "The casting is wonderful, and the children are particularly great. When I see this, it really looks like a family. I'm very impressed."
