JULY 2013 Page 6A • Freeman Brookfield & Elm Grove Weddings, family gatherings, other events at funeral homes In 2008, a survey done of NFDA members nationwide showed that 8 to 10 percent had banquet or reception facilities. In 2006, it was about 6 percent. Having spaces that can be used for a variety of functions allows for an additional revenue stream, Koth said, and also can help familiarize the community about the funeral home at a time when they are not grieving. Krause's new Brookfield location has banquet room, bar, patio By Katherine Michalets Special to The Freeman BROOKFIELD – From the spacious banquet room complete with a bar to the water feature in the main area, it's easy to see why more than a dozen people have asked Mark Krause if he would consider renting his funeral home for a wedding. When Krause started to build the funeral home at 21600 W. Capitol Drive about a year ago, it was designed to meet the needs and desires of many people. The rooms have large windows and a variety of seating arrangements, there is a fireplace in the entry way, and a chapel with stained glass does not have many of the traditional religious elements. "I think the possibilities are endless. It's up to us to provide the type of services people are looking for," said Krause, owner and president of Krause Funeral Homes & Cremation Service. Even though Krause has not marketed the Brookfield location, which opened April 8, as a wedding or reception facility, he is already getting interest. The building has a kitchen fit for catering, a patio adjoining the banquet room and the Brookfield staff members all have bartender's licenses. Krause said he wants to meet customers' needs and be an innovator in the funeral An exception Joe Becker, owner of Becker Ritter in Brookfield, said he does not want to open A visitation room in the new Krause Funeral his facility for weddings or events other Home in Brookfield features modern furniture than funerals and memorials. groupings.
