JUNE 2013 HOMES PLUS Design continued from Page 8 "Its best also that both or all decision makers are involved throughout the design process and then later through the construction phase," he said. "The more input the client has the better we know what and how to provide in the design process. We ask and listen." Connor said clients who go through Connor Remodeling and Design can expect to be informed and up-to-date on every phase of their project, which includes daily or weekly updates as the project evolves. "We provide information and guidance on how to live through, and survive a remodel," he said. "We are honest upfront that their lives will be disrupted and they will be inconvenienced, but only as long as necessary The fact that we continually . inform the client on what's happening makes the process easier to experience." Depending on the project it can take anywhere from one to two weeks for a simple project completion and more than a month for more involved projects, Connor said. "Part of the design process is having the client select the various materials for the project so the design will take in account their selections," he said. "Before we start designing a kitchen we need to know what, if any, appliances will be kept or replaced. So with kitchen designs we start with the appliances." Linda Land, interior designer at Oconomowoc-based Lake Country Remodeling, said open communication is the key to any successful relationship. Approaching every aspect of the remodeling and design project and focusing on the homeowner's desires is just one of the many aspect of Land's job, she said. "Finding out the customer's wish list ranking the list from the most desired to the least aids both the customer and the designer to consistently stay on track with both the budget and the design process," she said. "As a designer, it is critically important to design with the homeowner's budget, likes, dislikes, lifestyle, and their overall vision for their space in mind." As the kitchen has become the heart of the home, with homeowners entertaining family and friends, an open concept design between the kitchen and living spaces are a current and growing wish for clients in their remodel projects, Land said. "Kitchen islands, task lighting, and additional storage spaces are also a desired requirement for kitchen spaces," she said. "Granite in both kitchen countertops and island tops are continuing their presence in kitchen remodels." 9 Distinctive Designs. Superior Craftsmanship. Choose From Three Models!
