JUNE 2013 HOMES PLUS 8 Designers work with clients every step of the way to create dream spaces Kitchens, baths most common remodels By Jody L. Mayers SPECIAL TO HOMES PLUS WAUKESHA – Kenneth Connor, owner at Connor Remodeling and Design in Menomonee Falls, said when it comes to remodeling and design projects he has been getting more calls for bathrooms and kitchen than any other type of project for the home. "Some are master baths and others are guest or kids bathrooms," he said. "People generally choose us because they feel comfortable with us because of our experience, referrals and low-pressure professional approach." Connor said typically customers would visit a remodeling or home improvement show in the area, which prompts a lot of interest in following through with a design project. "We educate our clients about how we work and how we want them to interact with our team," he said. "In order to know how to meet their needs we ask lots of good questions." On average, Connor said bath and kitchen remodels return on investment are between 50 and 70 percent. Connor explained that a majority of his clients are staying in their homes long-term, which not only provides a good return on investment but they're living better and more comfortably in their homes. "How can you put a price on feeling good every time they use the space?" he said. "Value is cost or a feeling." While remodeling budgets can vary drastically, Connor said on average people should expect to put aside $10,000 for a small bathroom remodel and around $35,000 and up for master bathrooms. Connor said kitchens usually start around $30,000 and go up depending on the size, materials used and if there needs to be structural changes. "Typically in our process, we try our very best to limit potential unforeseeable expenses through our process," he said. "If we have a general idea of a potential unforeseen cost we will provide a preliminary cost so there are no big surprise.
