Born in Detroit, MI on August 31, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Ladd McIntyre and Josephine Putnam McIntyre. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Ashdown, her stepfather, Bob Lute; and two daughters, Beth Parson and Becky Passino. Joyce is survived by her son, Neil Ashdown and wife Dianne of Shelby; her grandchildren: Amber Ashdown Potter and husband Robert, Angeline Dixon, Andrew Bassett, Stephanie Fields and husband Jeremy, Troy Parson and wife Chelse, Amber Bailey, Myria Bailey and husband Isaac, Cole Passino, Jaimie Brackett, Amber Alexander, Callie Malone and husband Edward, and great-grandchildren; Austin Potter, Jace Potter, Reece Potter, Zara Bailey, Connor Bailey, Wyatt Bailey, Lily Bailey, Isaiah Fields, Kailyn Fields, Abram Fields, Tully Parson, Luke Parson, Benjamin Parson, Summer Bassett, Alanah Hopper, Tristdon Alexander, Adysun Alexander, Erica Alexander, Eliza Alexander, Caroline Malone and Eddie Malone. Her ashes will be spread over Black Mountain in accor- dance with her wishes during a Celebration of Life at a date yet to be determined. The family insists that no flowers or monetary donations be made. Born in Cleveland County, on January 10, 1946, she was the daughter of the late William Lawrence Brackett and Helen Ward Brackett. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Don Brackett. She is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Dennis Walter Towery, Sr.; two sons, Dennis Towery, Jr. and wife Kathleen and John Towery and wife Jessica all of Lawndale; five sisters, Marlene Allen of Clarksville, GA, Shirley Hord of Shelby, Diane Mauney and husband Harry of New House, Patti Hamrick and husband Mike of Waco, and Linda Blackburn of Shelby; and four grandchildren; Jesse Rachel Towery, Perry Towery, Ivey Towery and Jude Towery. GERALD GETTYS Gerald Gettys, age 79, of Rutherfordton, passed away Monday, August 24, 2020 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center. Gerald was born March 5, 1941 in Rutherford County to the late Embry Gettys and Rosie Stockton Gettys. He was a graduate of Ellenboro High School and served in the U.S. Army dur- ing the Vietnam War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Spurlin and Marjorie Gettys and an infant grandchild. Those left to cherish his memory include his lov- dren.
