www.negociosnow.com 6 Julio 2020 CARLOS BALLESTEROS Investigative Reporter Injustice Watch Carlos Ballesteros is an investigative reporter with Injustice Watch, a nonprofit newsroom dedicated to covering the criminal justice system. Prior to joining Injustice Watch, he spent two years at the Chicago Sun-Times covering the south and west sides as part of the inaugural cohort of journalists with Report for America, a nonprofit that places reporters in local newsrooms across the country. He is the son of Mexican immigrants and was born and raised on the southwest side of Chicago. DANIEL BENATAR Assistant Professor of Medicine Mount Sinai Hospital Benatar was raised in Venezuela where he finished medical school and practiced rural medicine for two years. He came to Chicago in 1996 where he did research in congestive heart failure for a year at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He is director of the noninvasive cardiology program at Mount Sinai, and as an assistant professor he trains younger physicians in cardiology. His main interest for both clinical practice and research include Latino access to healthcare. IRIS BERRIOS News Reporter Telemundo Chicago/WSNS Berrios is an Emmy-Award- winning news reporter for "Noticiero Telemundo Chicago," which airs on Telemundo Chicago/WSNS. Berrios joined Telemundo Chicago in 2014. She previously worked as a news reporter for WVEN-Orlando from 2006 to 2014. In 2012 she received the Paoli Prize as Reporter of the Year in Puerto Rico and Orlando, Florida. Berrios earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of the Sacred Heart in Puerto Rico. She is originally from Ponce, Puerto Rico. DR. JOSÉ BILLER Chair of the Neurology Department Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. Biller served as director of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology 1994 to 2001, was president of the board in 2001, and currently holds the title of emeritus director. He is editor of the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases, and an editorial board member and reviewer for an array of other national and international journals and publications. His research interests include stroke in young adults, transient ischemic attacks, carotid artery disease, and heart and brain interactions. EDDY BORRAYO President & CEO Rincon Family Services Throughout his 18-year career in behavioral health and 13 years in management, Borrayo has worked with several major nonprofits and for-profits in staff and consulting roles. His experience includes administrative and clinical positions in a number of organizations that serve disenfranchised and at-risk populations. Today he is an internationally acclaimed speaker and business consultant who give presentations on topics such as cultural competence, mental health, suicide and health disparities. DR. DAGOBERTO CAMACHO Chief Medical Officer Norwegian American Hospital Camacho is a board-certified family medicine physician with an MBA and has played a critical role in this pandemic. A couple of months before the pandemic, he became interim chief medical officer in addition to his duties as a hospitalist, medical director of ambulatory care, and primary care physician. Camacho initiated a Covid-19 taskforce, which monitored patients daily. He also led many Covid-specific protocols including rapid testing for all inpatients and development of elective surgery guidelines. DR. PATRICIA CANESSA Director of Diversity and Health Equity Illinois Public Health Association In her job, Canessa is addressing programmatic and public health policy issues that directly impact health disparities in Illinois and the Midwest. She brings more than 40 years of expertise in various health issues. With the support of African students from the University of Illinois at Springfield School of Public Health, she designed a culturally and linguistically competent evidence-based model of breast care and Hepatitis B for African immigrant women settled in scattered semi-rural areas of Illinois. MARTA CERDA CEO ASI Services Inc. Cerda is at the helm of one of the largest and oldest Latino-led nonprofits in Chicago: ASI, and its subsidiary NE Healthcare Services Inc. She expanded ASI from home care to medical home health with the creation of the for-profit NE Healthcare Services Inc., a home health agency. She developed telehealth services, and those helped almost 100 clients during the pandemic. This past year, Crain's Chicago Business recognized her a Notable Women in Healthcare 2019. MARINA DEL RIOS Director of Social Emergency Medicine University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine Del Ríos is a core faculty member of the emergency medicine residency program, emergency ultrasound faculty and health disparities research coordinator. She is also the community sphere physician leader of the Illinois Heart Rescue Project, a statewide effort tasked with more than doubling neurologically intact survival of out-of- hospital cardiac arrest victims. She is co-author on the Institute of Medicine's 2015 Report "Strategies to Improve Cardiac Arrest Survival: A Time To Act." JESUS DEL TORO Director and General Manager La Raza Chicago In addition to his work in Chicago, Del Toro is editorial director of La Opinión de la Bahía in San Francisco and formerly of Rumbo in Texas and La Prensa in Orlando. He is an award- winning political columnist, music journalist and poet. Del Toro is a Ph.D. candidate in journalism at Universidad Complutense, Spain. He recently published the arts journalism book "Silvestre Revueltas del otro lado," addressing the reception of Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas' music in the United States. JAIME DI PAULO President & CEO Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce On January 21 Di Paulo made an old dream come true by creating a conference with the Black Chamber of Commerce of Illinois and representatives in Congress to give minorities a greater voice in the 2020 political agenda. Previously, Di Paulo served as executive director of the Little Village Chamber of Commerce for five years. He is a recognized expert in economic development, helped open and grow hundreds of businesses, and grew the Little Village chamber membership from 30 to 900. LOURDES DUARTES Anchor/ Investigative Reporter WGN-TV Duarte is co-anchor of WGN Evening News at 4 p.m. and one of WGN's lead investigative reporters. Prior to joining WGN-TV, she worked as a reporter, anchor and host at stations in Detroit, Indianapolis and Miami. While in Indianapolis, she launched and hosted the public affairs program "Hoy En Dia" which won her an Emmy Award. Duartes started her career in Chicago, working as a freelance reporter for Telemundo Chicago. She is a four-time Emmy Award winner. ALEXIS ESPARZA President and CEO Economic Strategies Development Corporation ESDC is a nonprofit that fosters the vitality of the local economy. Esparza has tripled its funding, added a chamber of commerce, and expanded its scope. During the pandemic, he spearheaded efforts to raise $100,000 for ESDC's mobile food pantry. He is a member of the Latino Caucus Foundation, the ComEd Business Advisory, and was appointed to the Complete Count Commission by former Gov. Bruce Rauner. He chairs the Pilsen Business Task Force and is co-chair of the Pilsen Planning Committee. RUBÉN DAVID FELICIANO Director of Development and Community Relations Rincon Family Services At an early age, Feliciano discovered his passion for helping others. These experiences were embedded in his journey to the United States from Puerto Rico and facing adversities related to language, identity and poverty. He has worked in the nonprofit sector on issues of affordable housing, policy advocacy and coalition building for more than fourteen years. Throughout his professional career, he has been involved in drafting legislation, advancing policy initiatives, engaged in community development and event planning. JAVIER HARO Founder FoodHero L3C Haro is a serial entrepreneur, food business consultant and hospitality trainer and is founder of FoodHero L3C, a social enterprise vocational culinary training organization that builds confidence in people pursuing careers in food or starting a business. In response to Covic-19, FoodHero launched Cocina Rx, a food production initiative that serves chef-driven food- as-medicine meals for Latinx and African American communities. He is currently attending Harvard Medical School to be trained and certified in its lifestyle medicine chef coaching program. JORGE HERNANDEZ Paramedic Hernandez is an EMT-B and has worked for a private ambulance company for the past two years. Initially, he thought the job would consist of safe and direct transports while providing appropriate care. After having been on the job for a bit, it's clear the work is about protecting and guiding those who need help, supporting those in need, or just being a source of information for those with questions. DR. FEDERICO HERRERA Medical Director, Lead Pediatrician, Electronic Health Record Provider Champion Esperanza Little Village Herrera has been instrumental in ensuring that children at Esperanza receive the vaccinations they need. Under his leadership, the Illinois Department of Public Health recognized Esperanza Little Village for the greatest child vaccination rate among all Chicago clinics participating in the state's Vaccines for Children Program. Herrera has a special interest in providing care for asthma, eczema, and allergies. As a pediatrician, he believes in caring for families as a unit to ensure the healthy growth and development of children. ADRIENNE M. HOLLOWAY Chief Innovation Officer City of Aurora Holloway is the highest-ranking Latina in the second-largest city in Illinois, which also has the largest number of Latino residents outside of Chicago. With her help, Aurora is restructuring systems and improving ways to better serve the residents and businesses in the city. She is responsible for leading both social and technology innovation. She has more than 15 years of experience in housing and community development and holds a Ph.D. in political science from Northern Illinois University. DANIEL IBARRA FITZGERALD Deputy Director, Affirmative Action Illinois Department of Children and Family Services Ibarra Fitzgerald is living his life's purpose to ensure brighter futures for children and families. He has more than 30 years of experience in child welfare through his work with Casa Central and Youth Guidance.
