To adorn the sound doctrine that they pro- fess to believe, the Apostle Paul instructed Titus to tell aged men to be sound in charity. To guide them in this, Paul gives a detailed description of charity in I Corinthians 13:4- 7 that serves as a good guide for Christians of all ages. Newer Bibles change "charity" to love here, but charity is love in action, and that's the kind of charity that all Christians should seek to be sound in! But Paul coun- sels aged men to be sound in charity because some of the descriptions he gave the Corin- thians of charity are harder for aged men to exhibit. For instance, he says that charity "suffer- eth long" (I Cor. 13:4). Do you know any aged men who don't suffer long with others, who get cranky when people vex them instead? Paul says aged men should rather be sound in charity, and "kind" (v. 4) when people tax their longsuffering. Charity also "envieth not" (I Cor. 13:4). People of all ages are envious, but envy hurts more as you get older. You see, if you spend your life envying the things possessed by oth- ers, and not getting them, by the time you get Baptist Baptist One subject of common discussion is end time events. In recent years both secular and religious magazines have had cover stories about the "Second Coming of Christ." As a minister I get many questions on this general subject. Some think of world events as "Signs of The times", "The Last Days", the conflicts surrounding Israel and the many recent dis- asters. Many are shocked as America is turn- ing to Socialism and the government takeo- ver of private businesses. Others are wor- ried about a one-world government as they see their freedoms and liberties vanish. Oth- ers are so consumed by the culture and what they were taught in school they seem to be in a non-intellectual fog. Billy Graham's book, "Storm Warn- ing" gives some an- swers and hope in a hopeless world. This elder Christian states- man and the world's most admired Chris- tian writes openly and honestly about what is happening in our world today and how it fits into last day events. God's Word has a lot to say about the end times and how you can find an eternal safe Ramblings of my mind by Lowell Thomas Another friend of mine would say it's been a wonderful day after a week of miserable con- ditions weather wise. My friend, Hank Tomey would say it is just wonderful and I don't think it has ever been this wonderful. Hank seemed to always see the brighter side of things and didn't need much to make him happy. He was always easy to work with and a pleasure to be around. Haven't seen Hank for quite a long time and I hope he is doing well. I read on Facebook about the month of May and it said May is the month where it may be hot and humid or it may be downpour of rain or you may have to shovel snow all in one week. It has been a week with all the seasons represented. Without our church service, every day seems to be the same and as we get up, ex- ercise, take medications, eat breakfast and dress for the day. Normally this occurs be- tween 10 a.m. and noon. The rest of the day filled with chores around home and hopefully See VIEWPOINT on 3 Baptist Continued in next column Assembly of God WASHINGTON ASSEMBLY OF GOD 320 S. Steve Selby, Pastor Elaine Barrett, Reporter CROSSROADS BAPTIST CHURCH 2789 S. State Rd 57 Oakland City It sure was exciting to return to church for wor- ship this past Sunday. I'm so thankful that Governor Holcomb allowed churches to meet again. It was like a reunion, only we didn't get to embrace and hug each other. Crossroads will con- tinue to meet each Sunday while practicing the proper precautionary measures: so- cial distancing between fam- ilies, use of hand sanitizer, masks, washing hands, etc., and no welcome of walk- ing around, shaking hands and embracing each other. Understand that this is a precautionary measure. Also, note that as we be- gin to have services again, we will not immediately be- gin all of our outreach (for example the community ba- by shower). Crossroads is committed to our commu- nity and will engage in out- reach to coincide with the governor's suggested stages of opening. Yes, we will have a community yard sale, ba- by shower and much more, but only when it is allowed for large groups to gather (as outlined in the re-open- ing press release). Further, all of our ministries at Cross- roads will resume when it is completely safe to do so. We love our community and look forward to having a great summer. Curt Beadle, Pastor And some good news for a change, we are able to start resuming church services, but with a few changes. We will need to maintain social distance, all families will need to sit together and sit in a pew with a cross so we can make sure we have the need- ed distance apart. For right now, there will be no Sun- day night social gathering and no children's church. We will meet for Wednes- day night service, upstairs in the sanctuary, not in the basement, with same rules for social distancing. Hopefully things will get back to normal, but for now, we need to meet certain guidelines so everyone can stay healthy. When things change, I will let you know. Thanks and God Bless you. Thought for the week: I rejoiced with those who said to me, "Let us go to the house of the Lord" (Psalm 122:1). Be in prayer for the lost, the sick, our church, our country and leaders, and always each other. God's blessings on you this week. Try to be kind and show God's love, because every- one is fighting some kind of battle. If you don't have a church home, we invite you to any of our services. Gary Watson, Pastor Nyles Head, Assoc. Pastor Kathy Henderson, Re- porter
