The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, May 13, 2020 B- 7 Baptist Christian Continued on page 3 Church of Christ Church of God Independent Independent Lutheran BRENTON CHAPEL CHURCH OF CHRIST 1194 E. CR 400 N. Prides Creek Road Petersburg Sunday morning Bible classes 10 a.m.; morning worship 10:30 a.m. and evening worship at 6 p.m. Tony Sims, Elder Ross Williams, Elder Methodist Catholic MT. PISGAH G.B. CHURCH 6100 S. Augusta Broadway Street Winslow Pastor 812-582-0756 Sunday services will con- tinue to be live on Facebook until further notice at 10 :30 a.m. with the morning mes- sage on Pastor Tuffy Jerry Blackwell's Facebook page. "Let your line shine be- fore men, that they may glo- rify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). Our Lord regarded His followers as a select com- pany who belonged to a dif- ferent world from the rest of humanity. Many of the religious people of His day were worldly and nonspiri- tual, publicly parading their religion to impress others while privately dominated by pride, ambition, greed and falsehood. Jesus told His disciples they could not make their light shine by sinking to the world's low level. It was only by aid- ing in Christ and in Christ, and living under the rul- ing power of His Holy Spir- it that they could rise above the world. Only in that way could they be salt and light to a decaying and darkened world. Our influence on society depends on our likeness to Jesus Christ. We cannot el- evate others higher than we ourselves have gone. The first century Christians out- thought, out-lived and out- loved their neighbors, and by their example of purity and compassion attracted countless thousands to the Christian faith. If at any time you don't have a church to attend, feel free to join us for services. I am sure you will leave feel- ing blessed. May God bless each and everyone. Jerry "Tuffy" Blackwell, Pastor Sharon Kendall, Reporter STS. "The memory of the righ- teous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot" (Proverbs 10 :7). I remember as a kid, going to my grandparents' house, and for the longest time over the library table in the liv- ing room, hung this large framed poster that displayed the names of Jesus. "He shall be called…" it began and list- ed were all the names given to Jesus throughout the Bi- ble. Most of us could proba- bly name off some of those names; alpha, omega, an- cient of days, good shepherd, the true vine, and we could go on. Isn't it funny what our minds can remember? It is my ongoing theory that I put into practice, that which we are faithful to put to memo- ry, is often what helps sustain us when nothing is familiar. When nothing around you looks normal, when practic- es are shaken up, routines VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. Judges 4:4-5 says, "Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judg- ing Israel at that time. She used to sit [to hear and de- cide disputes] under the palm tree of Deborah be- tween Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim; and the Israelites came up to her for judgment." But in Chapter 5, verse 7, Deborah refers to herself simply as a "mother in Israel." The titles and distinction were given to her by others. Deborah didn't seek them, because the people came to her instead of going to the city gates, where judg- ing traditionally took place. Her description of herself is important, because it shows her perspective. She would have used similar skills in making decisions in dis- putes between people as a mother does in deciding what is best for her children. If our perspective was that of a mother towards all peo- ple, concern might overturn bitterness and more care might be given in what we say and do. The job description of a mother is varied and diffi- cult. Deborah looked to God to guide her steps as a moth- er as in all things. We should look to Him as well. There will also be dai- ly Facebook live encourage- ment from the Pastors and ministry leaders. "You prepare a table be- fore me in the presence of my enemies" (Psalm 23:5, NK JV ). God showed me that the table that He prepares be- fore us is the feast of victo- ry that kings would have after they won the battle. Do you realize what that means? He's expecting us to have victory in every bat- tle against the enemy. And why shouldn't He—He has already won the victory. Glo- ry to God. So the next time the ene- my is attacking you in your salvation, your health, your finances, your thoughts, or any other area, picture that table that the Lord has al- ready prepared for this vic- tory. Each and every battle; each and every victory is al- ready yours. Praise God. Stand and shout your victo- ry, all glory to God. Check location and time for upcoming events, www. livingfc.org. In Psalm 25, there is inti- macy in relation. The Lord's voice is gentle. God's true people hear His gentle, low- speaking voice. Others may require thunderings and lightnings, and judgments. But the true saint's ear is close to the master's lips, as was the ear of John the be- loved the night of the last supper. In this position, the Master's whisper is heard. Even those close by may not know that anything has been said, but the sensitive heart and the love-touched ear knows the Master has spo- ken and obeys with joy. Joe Henson, Pastor Matt Haycraft, Reporter a.m.; evening service 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday evening prayer and praise service 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to each service. Almost without excep- tion, when God prepares to save a nation, he will be- gin with a praying mother. Hannah brought her frus- trations to the Lord. She prayed in her pain. She prayed when she was mis- understood. She kept pray- ing even when the preach- er misunderstood and mis- judged her. She kept pray- ing when there was no assurance that things would ever really be any different. Of all the blessings that you thank God for, stop now and thank God specifically if you had a praying moth- er. If you are a mother, stop this minute and ask God to help you in your "closet as- signments." Battles that af- fect the destiny of nations are won and lost in the prayer closets of praying mothers. Let's be faithful in this area, even if we fail in some others. God Bless America. Thought to Ponder...In prayer, it is more essen- tial to have a heart without words than words without a heart. "But you are...God's spe- cial possession" (I Peter 2:9). Imagine that —the great and powerful King of heav- en considers you among His special treasures. He has rescued you from the grip of sin and death. He claims you as His own. The King's voice says, "This one I love. This one is mine"—John Blase. Can you recall a time when someone genuinely called you, "special? " What effect did it have on you? What does it mean for you to know that you're precious to God? High King of heaven, my identity is found entirely in You, and You call me Your special treasure. I know this isn't because of anything I've done, but because of every- thing You are.
