Vincennes Univ. presents 'Music of Aaron Copland' The Vincennes Universi- ty Department of Music will present a "Music of Aaron Copland" faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24 in the Red Skelton Perform- ing Arts Center Theatre. The performance will fea- ture VU music faculty mem- bers Dr. Claudia Bossard, piano; Dr. Jennifer Harris, soprano; Michael Howell, classical guitar, and Joyce Kim-Rohrer, clarinet. Spe- cial guest artist is former VU faculty member Eric Bowl- ing, flute. The event will feature vo- cal and instrumental works by American composer Aar- on Copland, including Duo for Flute and Piano, Clarinet Concerto, Laurie's Aria from The Tender Land and At the River for soprano and guitar. Admission is free and the public is invited. Doors open at 7 p.m. Copland (1900 -1990) was an American composer, teacher, writer and conduc- tor. His open, slowly chang- ing harmonies are typical of what many people consider to be the sound of American music, emulating the vast American landscape and pi- oneer spirit. His best-known works include Appalachian Spring, Billy the Kid, Rodeo, and Fanfare for the Common Man. Local chapter of DAR attended district meeting Several members of the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently attended the district meeting hosted by the Francis Vigo DAR Chapter in Vincennes. Park manager Brandon Schultheis said they were going to meet with the contractor on Wednesday to go over a punch list of items on the shelter house. He said a ribbon cutting for the new shelter house was going to be scheduled soon. The new shelter house replaces one of the original shelter houses. It includes bathrooms, a bigger cov- ered area and a much bigger parking area. It is the shelter house located closest to the beach. $50,000 and $ 60,000. The 14-passenger activity bus purchased last year was $52,509. It was purchased in October from Midwest Transit. • Due to special consid- erations, the board agreed to reimburse a relative of student $ 0.58 per mile per day for each day the child at- tends school. Payment will be made once a month, with mileage claim form due on the last day of each month.
