Volume 3 ■ Number 2 ■ March 2013 A publication of Conley Media have been on the forefront for a while," Wilde explained. When you're planning any form of remodeling price is important, but Wilde said relationships are equally important: "We're a longtime company People want con. tact and we make sure we follow up, let them know what's going to happen next. If something is going to take longer than we planned, we'll call the customer." He's particularly excited about a steel door that looks like real wood with the grain. Wilde said garage doors have a whole new appearance with doors that strongly resemble walnut and cherry doors. "Some customers tell us they don't want a steel door because it looks like everyone else's door," he said. Wilde said if you are standing on the street and see a beautiful cherry garage door, you will take notice. "I don't know how they do it, but they do. It doesn't look like it was painted. The colors are random, like they did them in swipes," he said. Realtors have been known to request prices from Wilde to upgrade the garage door. He said when you pull up to a home one of the first things you notice is the garage door. "If you have a 35-year old door that's chipping and peeling, that's your first impression. For less than a $1,000, you can get a complete new steel door that jumps out at you." One of the "newer" ideas related to garage doors is a pull-down screen that is mounted under the existing door, and Wilde is a champion of this new product. "It blocks insects and has so many uses," Wilde said. "It can keep cats in, prevent leaves from blowing in all the time." Homes Plus continued from Page 1 This is not a product you'll find in home improvement stores, Wilde said. "We've had a lot of requests for this product with people who have homes on lakefronts," he said. Kris Lindmark is the office manager for Hartland Overhead Door and said one of the new trends in the industry is various approaches to opening your garage door. "Manufacturers have made it possible to use your smartphone or laptop to operate or monitor your garage door from anywhere in the world," Lindmark said. She said customers can purchase a $50 Internet gateway, and there is no annual fee to use the program. Lindmark said Hartland sells a lot of these units to families who have kids at home and for people who travel often. Lindmark cautions homeowners to look for a company that specializes in doors and openers: "We see fewer people turning to the big-box stores and are turning to companies that offer better warranties and higher-quality items." She said the key is to look for a door that fits your needs. A couple of things to consider include whether you have a living space above your garage or if you heat your garage. Both of those criteria might affect the choices you make regarding a door. Like Wilde, Lindmark said she really likes the garage doors that have the appearance of wood. "They're maintenance-free steel or composite materials. They come in several colors and the wood graining is very realistic," she said. Lindmark said consumers are also opting for a decorative glass on the top section of a garage door to complement the front door to their home. "Remodeling magazine says a garage door replacement is the second highest return on investment for a home," Lindmark said. 231026003 Garage Sales Director: Jim Baumgart 262/513-2621 jbaumgart@conleynet.com Sales Representative: Chris Collins 262/513-2623 ccollins@conleynet.com Editor: Dwayne Butler 262/513-2626 dbutler@conleynet.com Production: Patricia Scheel 262/513-2690 pscheel@conleynet.com Graphic Designer: Joe Orth 262/542-2501 #2411 jorth@conleynet.com Distributed by: ©2011 by Conley Media Waukesha County Homes Plus is published monthly by Conley Media - Waukesha County, 801 N.
