(March 6, 2019) hspaxlp PUBLIC NOTICE Public Review of Refuge Compatibility Determination for Right-of-Way Easement Expansion of Pike County Road 650 E and Bridge No. 150 Replacement. e U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is making available for public review a Compatibility Determination concerning a request by the Pike County Commissioners to grant a Right-of-Way Easement Expansion for the purpose of replacing Pike County Bridge No. 150 located 2.8 miles east of Winslow. Work involves widening the County Road 650E approaches to the bridge and associated roadway work adjacent to the lands of the Patoka River National Wildlife Refuge. e planned bridge improvement project will require a right-of- way expansion of 0.367 acre of Refuge land on the northeast side of the roadway on the north end of the bridge and the east and west sides of County Road 650E south of the bridge. e new bridge will be constructed, straight across the river. It will be a two-lane bridge 107-feet long and 24-feet wide replacing the old one-lane bridge. e impacts of this right-of-way easement expansion on Refuge land will be minimal and will be mitigated with land replacement on other areas of the Refuge. e bridge replacement is a public safety project. A determination has been made that this permanent physical impact on this Refuge at the location will not diminish the overall function of the Refuge nor interfere with the activities or purposes of the Refuge at this location. e National Wildlife Improvement Act of 1997 requires that before permitting new or expanded uses on a refuge, the use must be determined to be compatible with the purposes of the refuge. Compatible means that a use will not materially interfere with, or detract from, the fulfillment of the Refuge System mission or the refuge's purposes. is right-of-way expansion is subject to the compatibility review process which includes public review. e Compatibility Determination will be available for review for 14 days from March 11, 2019 through March 25, 2019 at the Refuge Office located at 510 ½ West Morton Street, Oakland City, Indiana. e refuge office is open M-F, 8:00 to 4:30 and the phone number is 812-749-3199.
