The annual Groundhog Day Celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Elks Lodge, 2301 Springdale Rd, in Waukesha. The celebration begins with a short ceremony from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. where the Wildlife in Need Center's very own Waldo the woodchuck will rise from his burrow & predict whether spring will be arriving shortly, or if we will weather more days of cold. Leslie Kiehl, the WINC education coordinator, said this will be the 5th year the Wildlife in Need Center is bringing Waldo the woodchuck to the celebration. As to not confuse anyone about Waldo the woodchuck, Kiehl said a woodchuck & a groundhog are exactly the same thing. "I think it's just a wonderful, whimsical holiday that lets us all get a little excited for spring," Kiehl said.
