April 27, 2018 Varsity soball plays to their fullest potential to dominate Strives to finish the season with prosperity With the Red Bluff High School Track season halfway through, the runners and field participants are working their hardest to finish the season with all of their will power. Senior, Marshal Brose, started running track his freshman year. He competes in the 4x100 relay, the 200 meter sprint, long jump, and triple jump. " Practice is where I prepare. Throughotu the week, we do the hard, difficult days in the beginning. Towards the end of the week we do the easier stuff." Plenty of students enjoy participating in track, and have numerous favorite's about the sport. Freshman Brayden Robinson's favorite part: Jake Benner Staff Writer "Definitely missing school. I would have to say missing school because of the meets." This is Robinson's first year doing track and he is very excited to be participating in the sport. Other runners, such as Dalia Barragan, enjoy track just for the running portion. Barragan is running track for her first time this year, just like Robinson. Barragan competes in the events of the 800 meter and the mile. Barragan occassionally participates in the two mile. Barragan started running with Mr. Hendricks, falling in love with running in the process. She is all about distance, doing only events relating to it. Runners like Marshal Brose prepare all week for the event. Beyond Brose's preparation, track runners such as Barragan and Robinson prepare in various ways. Robinson is always sure to be loose, not wanting to pull anything during or after his events. "I stretch before each meet, I always make sure my muscles are warm and loose, if they aren't then I don't feel as prepared as I should be." Red Bluff High School's track season is almost over. Each participant has strived to improve throughout the season. Bradyn Klein Staff Writer Minimizes errors as a unified team The JV boys baseball team is looking to improve this season by minimizing their errors. Jakob Fregoso, grade 10, believes they will do well as a team. F r e g o s o was asked how he felt about his c o a c h i n g staff, "Kenny is the g r e a t e s t coach I've ever had. I love him so much." He believes their greatest competitor will be PV. Fregoso has been playing baseball for 11 years. His favorite part about the sport is the competitiveness. The JV coach, Kenneth Button, is an extremely talented and knowledgeable coach. Fregoso states," I believe, as "As an individual I am the best at making magic with my glove." -Jakob Fregoso (10) Track Wins numerous matches Chris Huhn Staff Writer The Red Bluff high school boys tennis team is beginning their playoffs on May first and the team is working hard to make sure that their team can beat the other schools c o m p e t i n g against them. The team has had sixteen matches already and is looking forward for the playoffs. They are hoping that they can win it all. This year, the team has won numerous matches, but they have also lost a plentiful of matches; it has been a good season this year. The team is coached by Dennis Polton and Stan Twitchell. A freshman on the team, Dylon Reid, joined tennis because he and his friends wanted to stay active and try a new sport. This is Reid's first year playing tennis and his goal is to do better than everybody else on the team. When asked what his favorite part about the sport, Reid responded, "I enjoy hanging out with my friends and getting better at the sport." When asked about his coaches, Reid said that "they are good coaches and they have a lot of knowledge to share with us." Another freshman on the team is Reese Gambetta and this is his first year playing tennis. He joined the team because it seemed like it would be fun and his friends were doing it. Gambetta's favorite part about the sport is being on team four and working hard to get in to a better group. When he was asked about his coaches, he responded, "He is very into tennis and very passionate about it. He also does not like slackers and will kick people off the team who are not serious about what they are doing." The team, as a whole, is to improve each player throughout the entire season. They would like to perform to their best capability, improving their statistics as a team and especially in individual matches. Spartan's Player of the Issue Caleb Ramos : Track Tennis T he player of the issue is fifteen year old freshman, Caleb Ramos. When asked what his greatest strength is, Ramos responded, "I have great running form." Caleb has been running track for four years and has been playing soccer for eleven years. Secondly, Ramos was asked why he does track, his response was: "I watched track during the Olympics, it looked fun, and I wanted to try it." Ramos believes he is the second best JV sprinter on the team because theats where he has been placing during meets. He also feels he can improve on his starts to decrease his overall time. Jv Baseball Jv Baseball "The Rockets and the Raptors but either way Harden is going to clutch up." Ian Skjegstad (12) Jake Benner Staff Writer With the softball season just starting, and a couple tournaments played, the Red Bluff Varsity Softball team is set and ready to go for the season. Junior Alexis Zamora, who has been playing the sport for 11 years, is very excited and prepared for the season. Playing catcher, her favorite thing about softball is, "The adrenaline rush, it makes me feel like I'm really helping the team out." Because the seasons league has just started, it is no worry for the team players to form a great bond. Aubrey Zamora, junior, says, "I feel like the majority of the team has a good bond, but we can improve." Aubrey Zamora, first baseman, has been playing softball for 11 years. Her favorite thing about softball is "now that Claire is not playing softball I have no favorite." When asked previous to the teams latest tournament if they were prepared, Alexis Zamora said "Not sure, I never know if we are prepared enough till the game starts." The team has a long season ahead of them, giving them plenty of time to work on their weaknesses, which consist of hitting amongst other things. Although the team may have some weaknesses, they also have plenty of strengths, such as their defense. The team is very excited for the season. Everyday after school the team has been working their hardest, giving themselves the best chance to have a successful season. With the team previously playing a tournament in Sutter, they are sure to play to their full potential in games ahead; furthermore, the team went 2-1 in the tournament. Overall, they have fourteen wins, five losses, and one tie.The varsity softball team at Red Bluff High is striving their best for greatness and success over the course of their season. " Jordan Shank, grade 9, believes they will do extremely well this season. Shank believes their coaching staff is amazing and really encouraging. He too, said their greatest competitor will be PV and p o s s i b l y F o o t h i l l H i g h S c h o o l . S h a n k has been playing for 10 years. H i s f a v o r i t e part: "I love being out on defense, waiting for that ball to come my way." He plays right and left field and pitcher. Shanks believes, as an individual, he is best at making sure everyone keeps their heads up especially during rough games.
