FREEMAN & ENTERPRISE LAKE COUNTRY • Page 3A November 2016 By Chris Bennett Special to The Freeman PEWAUKEE — All of the technological advances and touches of care common to the two locations of Jilly's Car Wash go for nothing if not for owner Jon Zimmer- man's greatest trick — fig- uring out how to control Mother Nature. There is a Jilly's Car Wash at 1293 Capitol Drive in Pewaukee and another at 15340 W. Bluemound Road in Elm Grove. The washes are named for his wife, Jill. Zimmerman said he and his wife previously were involved in the fitness cen- ter business, and applied that business model to car washes. For $19.95, a person can wash their car an unlimit- ed number of times. A sticker on the vehicle is read, billing is automated and an account can be man- aged online. "What I think is so impor- tant is it takes the weather out of the equation when deciding to get a car wash," Zimmer man said. "A person can wash their car when it needs to be washed, not when they think the weather is going to be nice, and I think that is a big deal." Zimmerman washes auto- mobiles in the same fashion most of us wash ourselves. One does not step into the shower, splash soap on their face and body and spin around under the water until the previous day's dirt and grime is washed free. There is a ritual to show- ering, whether one takes 30 seconds or 10 minutes. Soap is applied, the body is washed — hopefully, with care — and everything is rinsed, all in an effort to feel clean and human. Setting his business apart Zimmer man has likely spent more time thinking about the act of washing a car than anyone you know, and chooses his words on the subject in a manner similar to how a painter might choose a brush before embarking on a would-be masterpiece. "I always felt, for some reason, through doing some research, that in this par- ticular market in Wiscon- sin, it seemed as if people in the car wash business were very good at all look- ing alike," Zimmer man said. "It would be a market I could tap into, if I moved into the market and did things differently." Differently comes in a host of for ms at Jilly's. Zimmerman strives to add a human element to the act of washing a machine. "I always wanted cars to be greeted by a person," Zimmer man said. "You're greeted. We give every per- son who goes through a car wash scent and a free dash wipe, and we give the kids a lollipop and a dog a treat." Depending on the wash package, the tires are cleaned before the car enters the wash. The car is hand-scrubbed with a brush and spray gun a bit before it enters the convey- or. "If there are bugs in the front of the car, we're going to get it off," Zimmerman said. "If there's ice buildup on the car in the middle of the winter and you need to nail it with a (spray) gun, we're going to get it off." The unwelcome "pre- sents" birds leave on one's car are also addressed prior to entering the wash bay. Zimmerman said you are basically using a giant supercomputer when you go through his convey- orized, tunnel car wash, which differs from the in- bay, automatic car washes common throughout the area. A computer deter mines the car's size and calculates the amount of soap and water and other products needed to clean the vehicle. The car is moved through the wash area on a convey- or at the two Jilly's loca- tions, instead of equipment rotating around the car. Jilly's also utilizes the best vacuums available. Ninety percent of the vacu- ums in the industry operate from one location — Zim- mer man's operate from four points around the vehicle. Blowers are also provided to remove any excess water. "One of the most popular things we provide is free towels for drying," Zimmer- man said. "We give towels out for our customers to use. We provide Armor All, window cleaner and carpet cleaner to use for free." Learn more on the web at jillyscarwash.com. Added personal touches set Jilly's apart from competitors Submitted photo Jilly's owner Jon Zimmerman says it's touches both big and small that separate his business from other car washes in the area, including personalized care right down to towels for drying cars after they are cleaned. 252550007 252966001 S CHUETT FARM S W299 S6370 Hwy. 83, Mukwonago, WI 4 miles North of Mukwonago on Hwy. 83 414-587-8978 We offer a variety of trees up to 14 ft. tall including: Starting the Friday after Thanksgiving: Mon.-Fri. 12:30 to 7 PM • Sat. 10 AM to 7 PM • Sun. 10 AM to 5 PM C HRISTMAS T REES OPEN DAILY • Balsam Fir • Fraser Fir • Canaan Fir • Scotch Pine • White Pine • Wreaths & Holiday Decorations Gift Certificates Available!
