The big game against the Red Bluff Spartans and the Corning Cardinals has always been known as the Tehama County Shootout. This game is of much importance to the team and they look at it as a battle for Tehama County to show who really is the best. "It's always been an extremely competitive rivalry," agreed Senior, Kegan Richards. Along with the critics of the boys never playing to their full potential, the team has high hopes for ensuring their home crowd with a win. "We have home turf advantage, and it's easier for us to execute that way," explained Junior, Tanner Tweedt. The team is going into this game knowing that it will be a hard fought game with rising tempers. "We know they're a good team,I mean they're 5-1,so we have to go in with an open mind and a positive attitude," added Sophomore, Tanner Gantenbein. Corning has always been competition for the team and this year the game is extra s p e c i a l k n ow i n g t h a t it's a l e a g u e game. This is c o n s i d e r e d the biggest g a m e of the year right next to Homecoming but they're sure that they're more than capable for a win if they play to their full potential. " C o r n i n g 's having a great y e a r and it's definitely a good match up. We want to be 1-0 come Saturday morning,so our focus this week has 100% been to beat Corning and making our school and c o m m u n i t y proud for our e f f o r t , " a d d e d C o a c h Hein. T h e Varsity boys plan on bringing their A game and they're prepared to dominate. "We have a greater chance this time around, but we can't overlook what they're capable of," stated Senior, Carlos Mendoza. The players each have a source of motivation for tonight or a game plan to help them push through and hopefully win the game. "We're playing our rival, I think that should be motivation enough," stated Junior, Ian Hagen. Several of them would like to dedicate this game to their friends and loved ones and their coaches who have always pushed them to improve and achieve. "I'm balling out for an old friend," added Junior, Conner McKenzie. Every team is competiton, but the team is confident that beating Corning is a possibility because of how hard they have worked and how much effort they have put into this week's practice. They have learned how to execute properly against Corning's offense and defense and film has been their best friend this week. "I feel even more motivated for this possible win knowing that my brothers have my back. "This means that I have to do everything in my power to do my best because I have to have their back," added Senior, Casey Pierce Travis Fite added, " It will be a dog fight, because this is the only game of the year that matters for the both of us." The junior varsity plays at 5:30 while the varsity football team will play at 7:30. Both games will be at Spartan Field. Red Bluff High School is known for having strong relations regarding sports such as Volleyball or even clubs. The students aim to achieve higher awards or competitions through hard work and working together not just as a team, but as a family as well. When asked about personal and team goals the girls on JV Volleyball gave great examples that help to show our school spirit. Bailey Diggs, who plays backrow, said that for her own personal goal is that, "I want to get better at passing under pressure and I am really looking forward to seeing my team win the rest of our games as my team goal." Another great personal and team goal chosen by Sayla Vasques, who plays middle back, was that, "I hope that as a team we can win as many games as we can without getting down on ourselves." Others we have interviewed all said similar goals and overall you can see that this year Red Bluff High School's Junior Varsity Volleyball team has some incredibly passionate players who have seen through experience mistakes they need herself, Brianna Tackmier, and Berenice Chavez. "It was my first time racing with Varsity, and it was quite the experience,"added Zotea. The goals as a team for the rest of the season include, beating PR's,finishing better, getting better times, and for some, eventually make it to state. Training with Varsity could also be a form of improvement, and they hope to keep on making their coaches proud. The cross country team will race in Folsom this weekend, expecting ther same if not better results than previously. Brianna Zotea, the 5 Varsity girls that raced in the Varsity level, competed fairly well. Sayla Vasques says that, "High school is a lot more competitive.", but because she has had 6 years of Volleyball experience there is no doubt that her persistence in playing will allow her goals to become a reality. Bailey Diggs exclaims, "I love to serve!", and through her last 2 years of experience what she says makes her most excited is that, "In the high school team, we actually have positions and spots instead of just going in a circle like in middle school." This shows that when playing for Red Bluff High School they aim to improve their teams by being professional while playing and acquiring students who actually have the fire to want to play. Maci Ochs perfectly summed up what should be a goal for anyone playing a sport by saying, "I want to be a better player compared to when I started the season," In order to become a better player it takes perseverance, and the want to become your best, therefore, we know our Junior Varsity Volleyball team will continue to practice towards greatness.
