Bluffer Staff Pick 'Fight Club' (1999) Awful movie, and I would not reccomend it to anybody. Page 4 September 9, 2016 Trinity Stehno Staff Writer Arts and Entertainment Aly Smith Staff Writer 'e Shallows' dissatisfies audience with horrendous and tiresome plot 'Limitless' TV show absorbs Blake Lively stars in the movie 'The Shallows' as Nancy Adams. This drama/thriller film was released on June 24, 2016. Gritty and dark story that leaves it's watchers shell-shocked over a deceitful ending. Trinity Stehno Staff Writer Fun new show that develops curiosity and excitement. Brooke Blythe Features Editor An interesting and unique game that is worth the download. 'City of Bones' differs from other books in series Amanda Waugh Staff Writer Enthralling read and always interesting plot changes! There's a newer thriller/ mystery television show that launched their last episode April 26 of this year; it's based on the movie that came out in 2011 with Bradley Cooper (who plays Eddie Mora), Abbie Cornish (Ed's girlfriend in the movie) , Robert De Niro (Ed's boss) and more. The television show has a couple big name actors as well, such as: Bradley Cooper again, Jake McDorman, Jennifer Carpenter, and Hill Harper. In the TV show there's a drug, called NZT, and it helps you to develop extreme cognitive skills. It opens up the ninety-percent of your brain that you don't normally use, so that anything you've ever seen, heard, or read can be recalled. It allows photographic memory in all aspects; you can remember math, English. It helps you to learn new languages just be hearing them, and so much more. Eddie helps solve cases in the FBI. He works with special agents Rebecca Harris (played by Jennifer Carpenter) and special agent Boyle, a former officer of the military. It's a great series with an intriguing point of view. It makes you think about what you could do if you actually had access to all hundred-percent of your brain. 'Limitless' makes you wonder what you could do if you had access to all one-hundred-percent of your brain. My favorite part of the TV show is that it makes you want to watch it; it's not a show that you can half watch while you do other stuff. It makes you sit down and focus on just one thing because if you don't, then you won't know what's going on. The show moves really fast, so you have to sit and watch it. Overall, the series is really, hands down, an amazing television show, and I would recommend it to anybody to watch it. 'City of Bones', which is book one of 'The Immortal Instruments' series, written by Cassandra Clare, is a highly addicting and recommended book intended for teens and young adults. The main character, Clary Fray, who was raised in a nonchalant, overprotective, normal environment gets suddenly forced to face an abnormal reality after witnessing an event that was the start to her new life. Clary, with her new found knowledge, is introduced to Jace Wayland, and Alec and Isabelle Lightwood, who help her to find out some truth to her past through dangerous yet exciting adventures. Clary has so many questions as to who she is, why was her mom kidnapped by demons, what does it mean to be Nephilim, and why is all this happening now? After going to a Downworlder Party in hopes that Magnus Bane can help her, he informs her that her answers will come to her when her memory does. Increasingly worried about her mom, she begins searching for any hint about her mom and her secret life, only to come across a p o r t a l t h a t l e d to a h o u s e w h i c h b e l o - ngs to L u k e , t h e m a n who helped raise her. While spying on him, Clary uncovers disturbing information that not only breaks her heart but makes her question who she can trust. After a fight with her b e s t f r i e n d S i m - o n , C l a r y d i s - c ove r s a new f o u n d a bi l it y a n d f i g u r - es out the location of the Mortal Cup and realizes only she can get it. Alec, Isabelle, Jace, "... the book series was really amazing and I highly recommend reading each of them." and Clary suit up and have Simon drive them to Clary's apartment building and to Mrs. Dorothea's doorstep. Mrs. Dorothea, as Clary perceives, is an older witch that lives in the apartment under hers, and she holds the Mortal Cup. After battling a Greater Demon named Abbadon, they grab the cup, and race back only to have the worst happen, leaving them stuck to deal with it on their own. In my opinion, the book series was really amazing and I highly recommend reading each of them. Although if you are the 'The Shallows' is a movie that came out June 24 of this year, and since being in theaters has played several times. It's a film about a girl, medical student Nancy Adams (played by Blake Lively) still mourning the death of her mother. Nancy travels to a desolate beach for a very much needed alone time. And even though surfing without a partner or buddy is extremely dangerous, Nancy Adams made the decision to get her tan on and go catch some waves. Cowabunga, dude. When she is out searching the ocean for a nice wave to ride, she's suddenly attacked by a great white shark, so she has to swim with an injury to a very logical giant rock in the middle of the sea. Nancy is then in pain and stranded approximately 200 yards from the shore-line, and she must fight to survive as the shark circles around her. The movie was absolutely dreadful. You'd think with a seventeen million dollar budget, the producers, Lynn Harris and Matti Leshem, would be able to make a decent movie. But they didn't. After Nancy's attacking, she swims to the rock, and from there the movie is just an hour and a half of a girl sitting on a boulder. I pity Blake Lively for starring in such a detrimental movie, but I say starring like she wasn't the only person depicted as a cast member. Lively has such talent, and yet she used it to star in a movie where she got to sit on a stone in front of a green screen and act scared. I'm not sure how the movie has made ninety-three million since being in the box office when the trailer is more suspenseful than the actual film. 'The Shallows' is considered a horror/thriller film, but the only part I was most thrilled about was getting to leave the theater and that unfortunate movie behind; the only part I was frightened for was having to sit through an hour of Blake Lively sitting on a boulder. I had nightmares the night I watched it about how awful of a film it was, not that it was horrific; I was just scared that something could be so bad and still get so much attention. It's been in the box office for two weeks, but I could hardly stand to sit through the showing for two minutes. This B-rated movie had no upside; there was nothing good about it, but the actress playing Nancy Adams, and even then, a person can only do so much for a lousy film. Overall, this movie was poorly put together and created a B-rated movie unworthy of being played on screens anywhere. I strongly disliked this movie, and if I could go back in time, I wouldn't pay to see it again. 'Abyssrium' is a clicker app that allows player to take their time in growing a beautiful underwater garden and fill it with many inhabitants. You start off with some peaceful music and a little rock appears; It's called the Lonely Coralite and your goal is to get plants and fishes that will provide him with company. There is no goal to this app, so for all of you action seekers, this game is most likely not for you. Before you rule this game out, however, it has its good parts. When you start to collect vitality, the in-game currency, you can purchase all different kinds of fish. They each have unique textures and sizes. The plants also add a great pop of color to the Coralite. The game also supports a virtual reality system, making it look like you are part of the aquarium too. Many clicker apps such as 'Cookie Clicker' get really old really fast, but 'Abyssrium' sort of gives you the feeling of accomplishment that many clickers lack. No, this may not be the game that you want to go show all of your friends, but for those who love the zen aspect, it's the perfect combination of relaxation from the sounds and art style. There are special in app purchases that would make acquiring fishes and points a lot faster, but you get rewards for simply completing little in game tasks, so I have found no need to purchase them. Out of five, I would give it a three and a half. The game has beautiful design and great features, but the pace can slow to a crawl when you are waiting to get enough currency to purchase your next item. 'Abyssrium' shows range type of person who enjoys going into a book with some common knowledge behind it I recommend reading 'The Clockwork' series beforehand which was released afterwards. 'Fight Club,' an American Classic created in 1999, is a world renowned movie specially known for the famous saying "Rule 1: Don't talk about Fight Club." 'Fight Club' is a gritty, dark movie paired with violence, sex and bad intentions. Movie stars Brad Pitt played the antagonist, Tyler Durden, Helena Bonham Carter, Marla Singer, and Edward Norton, a depressed man suffering from insomnia, all of which starts by their meeting on a plane. The plot thickens as, coincidentally, they continue meeting, and their friendship takes them down a road of dangerous acts and destruction. The movie was beautifully constructed as it shows the dark twisted ways some characters manipulate the others into heinous acts, fueling the fire as two lovers abuse each other. Tyler Durden is seen as the bad inf luence, the Devil to Edward's angel; he's the perfect bad boy. His recklessness is what gives the plot it's f lame, causing everything to do a 180 when least expected; his arrogance and defiance helps in his sex appeal — which its Brad Pitt, who can resist Brad Pitt?— his aim is to start a revolution, but his supporters are blind to his true motives. Edward Norton, plays a man whose name is never really given except for a few people calling him Jack. His character remains mysterious throughout the movie, such as in the book. His actions causing you to question his reality, who he is, and if you can trust him. Throughout the movie, his sense of reality begins to crumble, leaving him victim to his madness. Edward Norton, partner in crime to Tyler Durden, aids him in his whims of crime, making sure every plan is successful. His part was beautifully constructed as he dances with rage and sadness, madness and sanity, his character one big contradiction. His love interest, Helena Bonham Carter, Marla Singer. Marla Singer is the beginning to Jack's rebellion against his "white-collared" life. His lust for danger growing, and being sufficed through her. Marla is as dark and mysterious as Jack, their similarities drawing them together in a passionate, compelling love story huge with love and abuse. She pulls him into the world she and Tyler Durden live, sucking him into their world. The movie contorts everything, leaving you questioning everything until it comes to an end. Fight Club is definitely worth a watch. 'Fight Club,' directed by David Fincher started showing in September 21, 1999. www.playbuzz.com screencrush.com and keeps viewers attention
