By DAN MUCKELBAUER Post Editor OAK CREEK — Southern suburbs are getting some love from Goodwill with the opening of a second store and donation center in less than a month. Oak Creek celebrates its first Goodwill with a grand opening today through Sunday at Howell and West Forest Hill avenues, south of Drexel Avenue. The 12,000- square-foot sales floor and about an 8,000-square-foot production area is in the Howell Oaks Plaza, next to Woodman's. "We thought this would be a really good location because we really don't have anything on the South Side other than Franklin. Decades ago we had some- thing in Cudahy," said Cheryl Lightholder, commu- nications manager for Goodwill Southeastern Wisconsin, which now has 63 stores in Wisconsin and Illinois. The location was based heavily on ZIP Code research at the Franklin Store and Donation Center, 6941 S. Riverwood Blvd., behind Gander Mountain, off of South 27th Street. One of Goodwill's busiest donor cen- ters, the Franklin site showed many donors were from Oak Creek, Lightholder said. Donations are sold in the store at the same site unless there's an abundance, she said. In a tale of two Goodwills, a new store and donation center opened Jan. 14 at 10909 W. Oklahoma Ave., West Allis. The former Big Lots store next to an Ace Hardware Store is across from a former Goodwill. "The store was small and the parking lot was really small," Lightholder said, making it hard to donate items. The new West Allis store and donation center is 20,000 square feet, 25 percent larger than the old one across the street, she said.
