District Five officers responded to a ShotSpotter call for four shots fired in the 3900 block of North 19th Place just before 10 p.m. Saturday, according to police. The officers said they saw a suspect run away from the scene and then throw a gun to the ground. The 56-year-old Milwaukee man was quick- ly arrested. Officers said they found 9 grams of heroin in the suspect's pants and four fired cas- ings near where the gun was fired. The suspect is a convicted felon and has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 1977. Charges of felon in possession of a firearm, endan- gering safety by use of a dangerous weapon and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver will be presented by the MPD to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's office, according to the department. Two appointed as UW System regents MILWAUKEE — Gov. Scott Walker last week announced several appointments today, including Andrew "Drew" Peterson and Michael M. Grebe to the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents. Peterson is vice president of external affairs and corporate communications for TDS Telecommunications Corp., the seventh largest wireline communications company in the United States. He was previously appointed by Walker to the Wisconsin Technical College System Board in 2012, and serves as board president. In that capacity, he has served on the UW Board of Regents for the last two years as statutory delegate for the technical college system. Petersen graduated from Ripon College in Ripon and earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Grebe is executive vice president and general counsel for HUSCO International Inc., a global leader in the development and manufacture of hydraulic and electrohydraulic components. Previously, Grebe was a partner at Quarles & Brady LLP. Throughout his professional career, Grebe has devoted time to local nonprofits and serves on various boards of directors throughout the state, including Columbia St. Mary's, Managed Health Services Corporation, and the Zoological Society of Milwaukee. Grebe graduat- ed from Dartmouth College and the University of Wisconsin Law School. Sheriff's deputies issued 353 citations with increased enforcement over Memorial Day weekend MILWAUKEE — With stepped-up Milwaukee sheriff's patrols, one perpetrator was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and 353 citations were issued for various vio- lations of the law over the Memorial Day weekend. Among the areas targeted were the lakefront and parks: ■ 1 carrying a concealed weapon arrest (lakefront — Northpoint parking lot) ■ 55 citations ■ Two county ordinances ■ Two parking citations ■ 17 speeding ■ Six seatbelt violations ■ Five license violations ■ Twenty-three miscellaneous moving and non-moving violations. The bulk of the other arrests took place on Milwaukee County freeways. Coinciding with last weekend's enforcement operation, the Drive Sober campaign arrested 12 drunken drivers between 6 a.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Monday, the sheriff's department announced. The average prohibited alcohol concentration level was 0.14, almost double the legal limit. Among first-time offenders arrested, Travis Oleszak, 29, of Franklin, crashed his motorcycle into another vehicle on I-94 near Ryan Road at about 10:30 p.m. Monday night, and tested 0.24 on a breath test, the department said. He was reported as being taken to a hospital for head injuries and released. Wrong-way drunken driver deported twice from U.S. GREENFIELD — On May 21, the Sheriff's Office arrested Armando Espinoza-Hipolito (aka Espinoza-Ipolito), 35, after witnesses said he drove the wrong way on the westbound lanes of I-43 at South 60th Street, exiting on the South 76th Street. Milwaukee police and sheriff's deputies responded and placed him under arrest on suspicion of drunken driving, as well as second-degree recklessly endangering safety, a felony with up to ten years in prison upon conviction, according to the sheriff's depart- ment. The department was notified by Immigration and Customs Enforcement that Espinoza-Hipolito has been deported twice from the United States. Their records do not show that his third appearance in the United States was done through legal channels and ICE has placed a hold on this illegal alien, the Sheriff's Department said. He will be kept at the Milwaukee County Jail pending his new charges and further deportation action. Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. said in a statement, "Why should we have to wait for Espinoza-Hipolito to kill somebody driving drunk and the wrong way on the Milwaukee County interstate before immigration laws kick in to protect American lives?"
