The crash occurred at about 11:30 p.m. May 21 in the 7400 block of West Morgan Avenue, officials said. He had a blood-alcohol level of 0.137, and died of blunt-force trauma, according to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's office. He was report- edly not wearing a helmet while riding his 2010 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Fellow aldermen and other officials poured in condolences after the death of their colleague. Dudzik represented the 11th District since first elected in 2002 and worked for the city's Public Works Department. Alderman Jose G. Perez was among the aldermen who noted his working background. "I had the pleasure of serving with Joe on the Public Works Committee, the Public Safety Committee and the Licenses C o m m i t t e e . His insight and expertise, p a r t i c u l a rl y pertaining to public works matters, were invaluable and u n m a t c h e d , and the city will be worse for his absence. I will truly miss working with him," Perez said in a statement last week. "As two former city employees who then served on the Common Council, Joe was like a mentor to me in the area of public works," Alderman Terry L. Witkowski said. Witkowski also cited Dudzik's community service, including serving on the board of directors for the Polish Heritage Alliance, Polish Fest and the South Side Business Club. Dudzik was also involved with several youth organizations. Alderman Bob Donovan post- ed: "As Joe's 11th Aldermanic District constituents will attest, his passion and commitment to public service was amongst the deepest and most genuine I had known." Similarly, state Sen. Tim Carpenter, D-Milwaukee, said, "The South Side of Milwaukee has lost not only a dedicated pub- lic servant, but also a passionate supporter of his district and con- stituents."
