October 24, 2014 • Milwaukee County Post • 3 Post Staff MILWAUKEE — Local authorities will be on the lookout Sunday for sex offenders in Milwaukee County during the "Knock and Talks" operation. The operation runs from 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., in which law enforcement will visit res- idences of known sex offenders and serve warrants on those who have not registered with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry or are not in compliance with the Halloween guidelines set forth by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Probation and Parole. All of the county's municipalities are scheduled to have trick or treat Sunday. Authorities taking part in the operation include the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office Apprehension Unit and Criminal Investigative Unit, the Wisconsin DOCPP, the U.S. Marshal's Service and police depart- ments in Milwaukee, West Allis and West Milwaukee. According to authorities, the Halloween rules for sex offenders are: ■ During any trick-or-treating in their neighborhood, the sex offender will remain in their residence one hour prior to and one hour following Halloween activities ■ The home or apartment may not be dec- orated for Halloween – inside or outside. ■ The home or apartment must not have a lighted porch, or any indication that the resi- dence is participating in Halloween activi- ties. ■ No distribution of candy at place of res- idence. ■ No possession of any costume or pieces of costume used for Halloween. ■ No participation in any activity related to Halloween or trick-or-treat activities; this includes visiting haunted house sites. Last year, deputies knocked on 200 doors of registered sex offenders, and 19 sex offenders were arrested for violation of their probation and parole conditions. In addition, two were found and arrested on felony warrants from a top 10 most wanted list, and one man on the list turned himself in. Milwaukee County Sheriff's detectives have already begun to locate and arrest sex offenders with arrest warrants and for failure to register with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry, according to a news release.
