Post Staff MILWAUKEE — Global Union, the farewell-to-summer festival of world music and culture, will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. Alverno College, in partnership with the Milwaukee County Parks, will celebrate the ninth anniversary of this free, one-day-only event. Bands from Argentina, China, Appalachia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Sierra Leone will perform. At 12:30 p.m., Mariana "La Yegros" of Argentina will use electronica to bring traditional music to the 21st century. At 2 p.m., Wu-Force will weave together guzheng (Chinese zither), banjo, looping stations and more in an avant- Chinese-Appalachian-indie-folk-rock proj- ect. At 3:30 p.m., Calypso Rose with Kobo Town of will perform a fusion of calypso, roots reggae, and acoustic instrumentation with an indie-rock attitude. The final per- formance, at 5 p.m., will feature Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars with its brand of uplifting, danceable, and "crazy-fun" music. Additionally, a variety of vendors has been selected, and craftsmen from Ecuador and around the world will be represented by the handcrafted merchandise of INTI Fair Trade and Four Corners of the World, also a fair-trade organization. Global Union is a kid-friendly event, with special activities in the family tent. Express Yourself Milwaukee will offer interactive musical performances and art-making activities for the kids. Students from Alverno will lead educational activities. The Learning Shop will provide toys and games for the event. Global Union will go on, rain or shine, at 3000 S.
