We do try to find out what we can do to make employees’ days easier, because from February to April we work 10 hours a day.” The employees at Ellsworth Gilman can count on the office being closed for a few days after tax season, and in the off- season they have the flexibility to schedule medical appointments, attend their kids’ functions, or even sneak out a little early on a Friday afternoon just because. “Our employees do a lot for us, so we like to spread the wealth and do things for them,” Gilman said. “Like at Christmas we all went to a dinner and a show. For Thanksgiving we traditionally have given a grocery store gift certificate, and we do chocolates for Valentine’s Day.
