The innovator FortuneCookie $ Grilled Moonlighting MEET JASEN WOEHRLE: PR MAN, CENTER STAGE The Survivor Jasen Woehrle isn’t your average PR guy. With a background in theater, Woehrle doesn’t only know how to pitch a story, he knows how to tell it. This PR vice president at The Firm shares with VEGAS INC what keeps clients clamoring for encores. —Erin Dostal What was your first job? I worked at an Italian restaurant, washing dishes. I made $2 per hour, cash, each week. It was in a town outside St. Louis. What was your worst job? Not to sound like a diva, but it was washing dishes. They would want me to cut potatoes, which was gross. But, when you’re 14, I didn’t really care. I could take my money and go to the arcade, Galaxy Games. What movie could you watch over and over again? The original Halloween. I love horror movies. Always have. Tell us, do you have a business philosophy you follow? It’s probably the same as my personal one: Live with no regrets. You can’t change what’s already happened. Just think of the decisions you made and roll with them. You can reflect, not regret. If you could bring two CDs on a desert island, what would they be? The first would have to be something super up-tempo—something I would sing along to in the car. The second would probably be podcasts. I fall asleep every night with one earbud in. I can’t fall asleep without the sound of someone talking. Probably weird, I know, but it works for me. In your heart of hearts, what’s your most valuable possession? I guess it’s my sense of humor. I’m actually pretty good at responding very quickly in tense situations. 8 You were involved in Shakespearean theater in Chicago. Which character in Shakespeare is most like you? Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Not only does he tell the story, and tell the story well, but he also antagonizes the other characters. I’m the youngest of five, so I was always the antagonist. Do you own a favorite watch? A (silver, square) Kenneth Cole. I keep it simple. If you could give your high school self some advice, what would you say? Own what you do and don’t make excuses. If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be? I never met my dad’s father. He died before I was born. I’ve been told we would’ve been best buddies, and that I’m just like him. What’s your favorite vacation spot? I don’t travel a lot. I like the idea of a “staycation.” I like waking up and not having any plans. Travel is so stressful. What kind of car do you drive? A Chevy Classic, the first car I got into when I moved here. It’s silver, and whatever the color of dust is. Given your druthers, what would you be doing for a living today, if not PR? I would’ve still been acting. I stopped doing it because my mind didn’t work like that. I couldn’t take the lack of stability. I needed a steady paycheck. When I was 20, I performed in my last show. In the end, PR was the perfect fit for me. Pick ’Em Get smart Power tweets Overheard Done Deal Power Lunch The Numbers .com YOUR AD HERE Buy high Sell low VEGASINCmag Executive class Read this! I DO NOT BELIEVE IT’S GOOD FOR ONE’S SELF-RESPECT TO BE A PUNCHING BAG.” —EDWARD KOCH | 23 MAY 2011 | CHRISTOPHER DEVARGAS
