Over the years, Nelson's organization has been an
inspiration for several who went on to open a sanctuary
of their own after hearing about hers, she said. It has also
garnered visitors from places like England, the Czech
Republic, Germany and Finland, some of whom came
because they heard about the sanctuary online, Nelson
said.
Those interested in the program are invited to attend
the annual Adoption Day, set for 8 a.m.-noon on
Saturday, Oct. 26. A preview will be held of the 20 babies,
varying from three months to a year, from 10 a.m. to 4
p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Horses were brought in and placed in pens where starting Oct. 21 handlers will work with them to get them
ready and used to halters and being touched. The organization will also assess and rank them from 1-10 to help
buyers in selecting a horse that's perfect for them.
Those unable to make it to the event, but still wanting
to adopt are encouraged to check with the organization
later as sometimes not all babies are adopted at the event
as was the case for a few of those being offered in
October.
